Intel "Ghost Canyon" High-end NUC Pictured

Intel plans to put an 8-core "Coffee Lake" CPU into a chassis with no more than 5 liters volume. Detailed earlier this month, the "Ghost Canyon" is a high-end NUC (next unit of computing) desktop which features the company's premium "Coffee Lake-HR" SoC. This chip features an 8-core/16-thread CPU and Intel UHD 620 graphics, and a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot.

Since "Ghost Canyon" is positioned above the "Hades Canyon" NUC in Intel's product stack, Intel isn't bothering to build another MCM with an 8-core CPU and an AMD discrete GPU. It could instead let the NUC feature a faster discrete GPU over an MXM slot. FanlessTech caught the first glimpse of "Ghost Canyon," a matte black box with clear Intel Extreme branding. Apart from its star attraction, "Ghost Canyon" offers up to three HDMI 2.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, M.2-2280 NVMe storage, and either PCI-Expresss 3.0 x16 interface for graphics. FanlessTech mentions this product won't be out before early-2020.

14nm Coffee Lake in early 2020? It will be outclassed in efficiency and performance by Zen2 easily by then.

If AMD wants to make their own NUC, I'm all ears. I just don't know what market you're referring to at this point.

You could easily build a mini ITX PC with Zen2 8/16 and have superior performance/power efficiency and it'd also probably be cheaper? Would only be a tiny bit bigger too.

Are they still this size.. because that's larger than I "tiny"? Still though, it's a good second choice. It's just that I'd want to run something that'd be high on a shelf (on a wall unit).

That's so small that the 14nm Coffee Lake will most likely throttle to such clock speeds that you could get away with a Zen2 APU in an Antek ISK110, like this: (but with AM4):

I have one in my TV cabinet, it is basically the smallest ITX case that fits a normal board and it comes with a 90W PSU. Though I have an Athlon 5350 APU with Am1 platform that is literally used to download and play movies on the TV.

Okay I'm being silly here, it's still bigger but the technology in the Intel one will be outdated! I'm super Pro-AMD (borderline fangirl) so I'm just throwing potential AMD alternatives around here. Let's hope Zen2 APU has more than 4 cores since they wont be putting display controllers on their CPUs with more cores.

Well there is mini-STX form factor in between NUC and ITX(mini-STX is 3/2 size of intel NUC). I would love to see this on some of the similar builds as intel nucs, thought I'm not certain are there any case for it. In any way there's at least one review of it:
