With a combination of tax-sops and State support, Intel loosened its purse-strings for a massive investment in Israel, where the company already has substantial investments in manufacturing and R&D. The investment consists of a 40 billion Shekel (~USD $11 billion) semiconductor foundry. "Intel's global management has informed us about its decision to invest another 40 billion shekels in Israel, an unprecedented decision that is expected to bring thousands of jobs to the south (of Israel)," said the country's Minister of Finance, Moshe Kahlon.

This $11 billion investment closely follows news of Intel committing $5 billion last year toward expanding its existing facility in Kiryat Gat. Expansion of this plant in the southern part of the country, is expected to complete by 2020. As part of that agreement, Intel will spend $3 billion on sourcing materials, labor, and services from local Israeli businesses. The new factory is slated to come up in the same city, although it's not known if the site is contiguous with the existing factory. Intel is one of the largest multinational employers in Israel.

So much for the rumors of Intel going fabless. I just hope this facility will finally be able to turn out good 10nm chips or better.

For Intel, 2018 was a year of waking up to a new reality. Finally spending money to expand and make new fabs all over the world is something they should have done 2-3 years ago.
2021+ is starting to look a little brighter now.

If I wanted another reason to buy AMD this would be it.
Intel's investment in Israel is dictated purely for political reasons, it's been nothing but a free gift to a state that owns its existence purely to the generous purse of the Western tax payer. Buying Intel, today, is to help fund a status quo extremely pernicious and detrimental to European and American Citizens.
I could go on but this is not the place. Mods, please, don't erase this post, it is tech related even if it sounds otherwise.
Fellow gamers and builders: buy AMD.

Israel is classified as a Western country in diplomatic terms. Unfortunately for your position, I could also argue against any company based on tax incentives and protectionist policies. Don't buy anything constructed in Foxconn (Chinese subsidies), don't buy US goods (growing protectionism), don't buy EU goods (nation state cabal).
I know what your point is but like every other 'boycott' stance, there's always an element of unintended hypocrisy.
I see the worst part being a fab in an exceptionally volatile region of the world. I wonder what their Risk stratification is for the site?

Since when Israel dependent on the West for money? What??
If that is about those 3 billions from USA (and which also includes Egypt receiving cash due to the same agreement), then that is just about a drop in the bucket.

Why would I do that when Intel offering better performance in gaming?

Serious question: Why not make the new Fab in the USA? Or UK? :D !
US is under Trump administration. Wants a lot of taxes, people want to earn big money to buy big trucks and big macs. UK is under Brexit still, so nobody is stupid enough to go there until things clear out.
Israel on the other side has pretty talented people, wages are lower than either US or the UK, probably also taxes are better. Lets not forget that Core microarchitecture was built in Israel. Business man are (in big numbers and percentages) jewish. They know their stuff, compared to US or UK, so I think it is a logical move from Intel's part.

Because you're not picking PC components primarily based on your political views?

Nice trolling. i5 and i7 consistantly beats out at resolutions higher than 720P

A bit of an exaggeration. Most of us know the gap is mainly closed at 4k, which is where no GPU on Earth can go fast enough.

Was a tongue-in-cheek remark and a joke. I game at 60Hz, which Ryzen can do just fine, and I also edit images for my family which can eat a lot of threads so naturally Ryzen gives me the best of both worlds, because the Intel CPU i was looking at other than 2700X was 9600K (ÂŁ40 cheaper, but needs its own cooler so price is about the same). Yes Intel is better for pure gaming, but overall multi-tasking, productivity and gaming combined Ryzen is almost unbeatable. (I also didn't want to pay ÂŁ260+ for 6 threads in 2019, sorry).

I also don 't buy Intel because i absolutely hate it as a company, more than almost anything else in the world. It's a scumbag, cheating, lying money-grabbing cancer of a company that abuses its position and marketshare to spread lies and other anti-competitive behaviour, rather than letting its product speak for themselves. (9900K 50% faster than 2700X!). I support AMD because I support innovation, fairer prices and better products. And I don't have to sacrifice any performance either :) In fact i gain some. I will freely admit I am a bit of a fangirl though.

I buy components based on their performance. Intel gets a lot of hate, most of which is justified but when it comes to gaming they're just better. My PC is used solely for gaming, It'd be a waste of my money to buy AMD

Stay on topic.
Stop the AMD vs Intel vs whoever spats.
Stop the wise cracks on someone's ethnic/nationality heritages.

Thank You.

Last time Intel's Isreal division saved them(Core architectre). They are thinking this time will do the same. And their Isreal fab always produce the latest node.

Skip to 9:12 for gaming roundup
As a i5 ower I know how good those 4 core are. I constantly see 60-80 percent cpu use with spike to 99 percent with HD 4600 graphics in Shadow Worrior 2. This days a 6 core CPU is must.

Don't get me started on the amount of middle-eastern companies (==petrodollars) invested in AMD and GloFo. Start by googling "Mubdala Technology Abu Dhabi."

interesting... Here's hoping that Isreali made chips are as good as Malaysian made chips.

$38B in free money for 10 years and also subsidized weapons is a good indication of US financing Israel.

They don't need it, but they sure demand it.

What ever happened to Make in America?

Malaysia has an assembly line for those made in US\IL, not fabrication. IL's been fabricating chips for many many years now, including chipsets.
Those include Sandy-ivy, Skylake-coffee lake.

Trump wouldve hated this news if it was in China but as long it is his son in laws colony he wont say a word. Hypocrisy at its finest. He just made comments about Apple and Harley Davidso asking them politely or impolitely to produce in US.

Brighter for who? not us cunsumers i am sure as i dont believe any smart consumer want to live another ten years of domination of Intel again..
Not the same cpu for almost 7 years again please!
