SilentiumPC Signum SG1 Brings the ODD-less Design to the Masses

SilentiumPC is thrilled to announce the availability of its new Signum SG1 cases. Compact and efficient, these value-oriented cases are designed to bring ODD-less designs to the lower price points. Combining pure functionality with a pinch of style, the Signum SG1 is an excellent mainline case choice for any budget-conscious system builder and DIY user.

Inspired by automotive design, the distinctive, hexagonal side-vents are not only functional, providing ample airflow, but also a vital design element giving the Signum SG1 its unique personality.





In terms of functionality, this chassis was created with ultimate practicality in mind with internal layout radically simplified for ease of installation and maintenance. Signum SG1 chassis support ATX, microATX and mini-ITX mainboards and offer ample space for latest VGA cards with a length of up to 325 mm as well as CPU air coolers with a maximum height of 161 mm. Users are able to install All-in-One water-cooling systems with 120/240 at the top and 120/240 as well as 360 radiators in the front.
Two thoughtful SSD spaces located on the backside of the motherboard tray allow for simply sliding the drives in and locking them in place using a single thumbscrew. Two additional 2,5 or 3,5" drive spaces are positioned in more conventional spots: the drive cage in the lower chamber. The ODD drive bays have been omitted completely.

Signum SG1 series also features extra room behind the motherboard tray, with up to 35 mm, for straightforward cable management support with multiple grommets and cable tie mounts.



Top I/O panel features dual USB 3.1 ports and is attached to the chassis, allowing easy removal of the front panel without the need of rearranging the cables.
Proper airflow is ensured by utilizing the dual-chamber layout, as well as large vents in the front and top of the case. Depending on the Signum SG1 case version, either one or two Sigma HP 120mm fans are pre-installed with the option of expanding by up to 8 fans in total.

Signum SG1 series comes in five different versions, sharing the general design with just a minor differences. From entry-level base versions, through simple tempered-glass side panel variants, to the top of the line SG1X with dual glass side and front and RGB ring-fans:

• Signum SG1 - has a mesh front panel and a single Sigma HP 120mm fan at the back
• Signum SG1 TG - mesh front panel and two Sigma HP 120mm fans
• Signum SG1M - minimalistic, metal front panel and a single Sigma HP 120mm fan at the back
• Signum SG1M TG - minimalistic, metal front panel and a single Sigma HP 120mm fan at the back
• Signum SG1X - the top-of-the-line version with dual tempered-glass panels and RGB ring fans (available mid-March)

I've noticed a lot of these new mid-tower cases can only fit a 160mm tall air cooler. I'm guessing that is their nice way of saying "buy our AiO coolers with their nice profit margins!".

The 2.5" drive mounts look terrible. Going to be a lot of angled screws being inserted, which in turn means that the drives won't come out again...

ODD-less front panels...nope notta no way Jose....
Room for cable management...whodathunkit possible....
Potential to mount big air coolers, water coolers, and GPU's.....O.M.F.G.....how many millions of $$ of engineering/R&D did that take them .....

Marketing is the art of selling a product that has less features than its predecessor, for a higher price. Apple are masters at it.

The 2.5" drive mounts look terrible. Going to be a lot of angled screws being inserted, which in turn means that the drives won't come out again...

Actually, I think this strikes a good middle ground between the mount-the-SSD-directly-to-the-motherboard-tray-with-screws designs, and those that use trays. This is cheaper than trays, while not requiring you to remove your motherboard when you want to swap out SSDs (although TBH, a tray can't be THAT expensive).

That said, I'm no longer interested in cases that don't allow you to mount ALL your drives, 3.5" included, behind the motherboard tray (e.g. Fractal Design Define S2). It's just so much cleaner.

Please explain to me how exactly you're going to screw in the screws in the middle?
I don't see how it can be done, unless you have the worlds shortest screwdriver.

Scratch that, I thought the "ears" for the screws were standing up at 90 degrees, it wasn't clear from the case renders.
However, if you got their website, it's clear that they're not screwing into the sides of the SSD, but rather the bottom.
They did a rather complex design for that though, but I guess the plus side is that you can remove the SSDs without removing the motherboard, as you have to on some other cases.

I solved the spinning rust problem, I put them in a NAS connected over 10Gbps Ethernet. No more hot, noisy things in my PC.

Funny thing about that, is there are a few cases that I love but will never own because of having 5.25" drive bays wasting space and making the case much larger than it needs to be. For those few cases, I would gladly pay a little extra to have them eliminated and the case depth shrunk accordingly

Death to drive bays cant come soon enough..... I have a USB3.0 external that I can pull out of the drawer every third blue moon when I'm forced to use optical media.
