somewhat baffled at the amount of money one has to throw in just to show one's face to the Internet that will either get cringey response or just "meh".

Oh so it's like a car crash that holds you up, you know stupid people are involved but they are allowed to share the roads too much to your annoyance.

Finding something stupid is subjective ultimately. For example I would find you stupid (and detestable) if I hear you snarking on car crash victims beside the crash site.

Post a picture of what you're about to eat, stream a game you're playing.

Same idea, it just goes together.

Fortunately I don't care about you or your opinion.
People choose to stream, they aren't victims.

And I wasn't equating car crash victims to streamers.

Watching streams is just another medium of entertainment. Same way people watch sports or movie, some people watch streams.

Whether to watch human mechanical proficiency and/or strategy of pro or ex-pro players, tournament streams of competitive games, trying to learn the game mechanics by watching other people play either a veteran or a newbie or just generally lounging around with people whose game interests align with yours.

At the end of the day, streaming is more interactive and ultimately engaging for both the viewer and the streamer. And this interactivity with viewers is now leeching off to other media like Netflix's Bandersnatch and Formula E FanBoost from the top of my head.

I'm not some defender of Streaming here. I could care less about any streamer and the only time I watch streams are the nights I'm not fapping to go to sleep. But being disgusted at it just old man's grumble. It's like your sports jock dad being disgusted by you playing video games or building a meticulous water cooled PC.

Yes, its a whole bloody industry by now. Its almost like TV. I think that is the way this will go in the long run.
