As we draw closer to the release of Rage 2, publisher Bethesda has released the official PC system requirements for the game. The original Rage pushed the boundaries of rendering technology with its Mega Texture technology (which featured some slight streaming issues as available textures were rendered visible according to the scene).

The least of the requirements are set at an Intel Core i5-3570 or an AMD Ryzen 3 1300X CPU, paired with 8 GB of RAM and the long-in-the-tooth GTX 780 3 GB or R9 280 3GB. Recommended configurations will have to pack, at least, an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU with 8 GB of RAM and an Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB or AMD Vega 56 8GB graphics card. The 8 GB of RAM in the recommended settings is a welcome surprise, in that most games have now been requiring 16 GB of system RAM. Unfortunately, Bethesda didn't mention what gameplay experience can be expected from the recommended system configuration. RAGE 2 releases on May 14th.

Minimum System Requirements:
  • A 64-bit processor and operating system is required
  • OS: Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 (64-Bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3570 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 780 3GB or AMD R9 280 3GB
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
Recommended System Requirements:
  • A 64-bit processor and operating system is required
  • OS: Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 (64-Bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB or AMD Vega 56 8GB
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
  • Note: Persistent Broadband Internet Connection required to play and access certain features.

Surprisingly reasonable requirements.

Uses Avalanche Studios' Apex Engine, also used in Mad Max and Just Cause 4.

Nah this ain’t it. After paying full price for Rage and Wolfstein II only to realize both are trash.

Give me Doom eternal and make damn sure it is good

And I’d take both those games over Doom any day. I own the all of them and Doom was nothing but a twitch mob shooter that looked great. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Rage 2 is a total buy for me!

I am eyeballing this. Normally I would not since even they say the story is lacking but if it has sustained fun game play, I could dig it. I didn't play Rage so I have no frame of reference.

Seems my system fits the Recommended requirements just fine.

This is my concern as well. I really hope it turns out not to be true. I’m going wait quite a bit after release until we have a good sense of it from users and reviewers whether story is lacking or not.

If it's like a mere DLC (remember the Pyro in the first episode ?), then the game is doomed :)

Given the overall content of part 1, I'm not holding my breath on this one. It was seriously lacking in many ways. Yes, nice engine. Beyond that... meh. In terms of design Rage 1 suffered from existential crisis, not really sure whether it was a typical ID shooter or something borrowed from other popular things at the time. A seemingly open world that was actually fully linear (and therefore quite pointless) and merely served as interactive load screen for the missions; crafting and inventory system for god-knows-what-reason (because crafting is cool I guess?) and utterly crappy AI is what I remember most of it.

Aren't those CPU going to bottleneck those GPU(for the recommended specs)?

So minimum requirements don't require an internet connection?
