Epic Announces the "EPIC Mega Sale", with $10 Off on Every Game Above $14.99

Do they ever look at currency exchange rates, or just pick a number that sounds good to them and apply it to all?
I’m pretty sure the prices are set by the publishers, just like the other digital stores/launchers, including Steam.

Incorrect, Metro Exodus made more sales on Epic launcher on day 1 than the other previous two Metro's on Steam combined according to an article I read last week, just google it, I am not looking it up for you.

This game sold better because it is a better game, not because of the store platform.
This game simply wouldn't exist without the previous games building up the audiences.

Competition only happens when the game is available on BOTH platforms and compare the sale numbers directly.
EPIC store is not the saving grace but another attempt of monopoly with Tencent Money.

I went and availed myself of the three Quantum Dreams’ games. Don’t need to wait for reviews on the games themselves, their stories and gameplay are a known factor already. I figured it was better to get the dirt-cheap pre-order prices now.

I just bought Satisfactory. Don't really know why....

This game simply wouldn't exist without the previous games building up the audiences.

You wouldn't exist without your parents building you up. 1 comes before 2. Just like 3 is after 2. What is your point?

This game sold better because it is a better game, not because of the store platform.

I bought it to spite you.

EPIC store is not the saving grace but another attempt of monopoly with Tencent Money.

Epic is paying devs. Devs are happy. What's the problem? You don't want devs happy?

Its all because Epic Games are having poor sales.

Long live Steam!!!

;)

Shh, not so loud, they might understand everything. Let em bathe in their ignorance and superficiality.

Nope, with Fortnite money.

Also, $49 launch price for Metro Exodus = more money for developers less money for consumer, - they will never be a monopoly, Steam has to strong of a community and they know this. However, this will eventually force Gabe's hand to being more competitive in the long run. It is competition, anyway you slice it.

Assume you earns more than your parents did,
Does that mean the house you are living in is anyway "Better" than your parent's house ?

You buy /play games to make Devs happy ?
I am sorry but I buy / play game to make myself happy.

Yes, exactly. That is why I buy games to play. $10 off makes me happy too. Can't the devs be happy and me happy? Or do I have to shaft the devs in order to be happy?

Actively installing spyware to my PC doesn't make me happy.

You can always check EPIC store's T&C to see if it still violates EU laws in the privacy part.
Right now their Privacy Policy updated on December 19, 2018 , which is a few days after the "The Epic Games Store does not seem to comply with the GDPR laws " Reddit post.
They changed to some sketchy wordings but it is the same.
They clearly says in the Privacy Policy that you can ask them to restrict processing on your privacy data buy your requirement is temporary.
They will not be permanently obligated to adhere to your request.
They will lift such restriction anytime they wanted and use your personal information without your consent.
They will happily decline your request on "stop processing your personal information" if "their interest in continuing to process your information is sufficiently compelling to legally override your interest in the request."

So basically once you bought something on EPIC store, your basic information and credit card number are in their possession.
Delete your account / actively request them to delete are useless because your request is "Temporary" to them and they will lift such restriction after period of time.
And they can process your credit card information and decline your request to stop doing it "When their interest is sufficient to override your interest".

Good luck and enjoy your $10 discount.

So don’t use a credit card, and use PayPal instead, with the option of entering information every time. Easy peasy.

I don't mind the extra 2 seconds it takes to open another launcher and start the game, as long as the developers and users are getting a better deal.

all credit to @Vayra86 for turning me on to this a while back https://playnite.link/

Free and open source. No need to open any store launchers to play, just buy wherever you want and launch everything through Playnite.

Hey look, if you don't want to use something, by all means, don't. But stop adding bullshit arguments to this because this whole post reads as desperately grasping at straws to somehow lend credibility to a movement that is review bombing everything with an EGS sticker on it.

This is just temper tantrum mode for adults. Its sad to see grown men with a decent set of brains get so dragged up in 4chan level internet BS. None of what you posted up here, did you think of by yourself. Its just copy paste rage, 100% similar to spamming every Steam topic with middle fingers or other nice ASCII art. Sad.

Reflect on that, I'd say. For all the rest of your rant, you can let others worry about that. Law and regulation is in place, no reason to start playing the Clueless Cop that gathers the evidence from Reddit. In the hypothetical situation where Epic would be doing any and everything with private data, you can have the EU slap them on the wrist - or get a ruling for a massive fine. Seems to be working fine, no? Or do you think a reddit post does a better job? It evidently didn't...

There are hundreds of companies worldwide that don't adhere to GDPR yet. And here's the kicker: prior to GDPR, what you posted applied everywhere.

Hmmmm, no spyware on mine.

I don't live in EU?

I don't use a credit card. My basic information is available from the government if you ask for it.

Why would I delete my account? I bought games from there that I do like to play.

Good luck and enjoy your $10 discount.

Not just one $10 discount, unlimited $10 discounts!

Smack Down

Oh Snap, son.

It seems to me that Epic tried to pull this out of their ass before consulting Developers, so as soon as some devs knew about this they were probably like "hmm nope" and removed some of their games for the time being. Also, yes Metro sold more than all other metro on Steam because Epic pays them in advance an unspecified amount of cash regardless if it sells or not, so of course Metro was more profitable than on Steam. All thar fortnite cash has to run out sooner than later with all the spending they are doing lately just to hurt Steam. I'm not touching their crap, EVER. If anyone feels poked in the ass because of this, i advise them to buy their games there since i got no problem with others buying from Epic. But I'm sticking with GOG and Steam.

imagine being a brand loyalist and thinking that corporations are your friends

Why did you have to sum up techpowerup with one sentence like that? It's mean to call us what we are.

Seems the sale is unprepared.
The sale was prepared and everyone was on board. What the few who were dropped from the sale didn’t like was Epic lowering the price a further $10 on all titles and covering that themselves. That’s the part they didn’t run by all the game publishers. So a few elected to not be included in that extreme cost-cutting.

I don't understand why they would have cared if Epic is picking up the tab on that?

I can only assume because they weren’t asked if they wanted less income? Excellent question though, which I’m sure my guess doesn’t answer fully.

My assumption was that Epic was covering the $10 but that must not be the case if devs are pulling out. I only bothered to pick-up Satisfactory.

I don't know if the companies have commented on it, but some seem to think that they are afraid of damaging the value of their games before they launch.

Also, regardless of who you hate or love, there is no denying Steam sales have been lackluster last 3-4 years, compared to yester year shock deals... when they moved from the daily sales to one long sale, it also made the prices less shocking. You might not have noticed though it was quite gradual... but there used to be shock pricing and everyone would get hyped. So at least Epic might bring that back ;) Competition is everything in the free markets.
Pricing is completely up to the publisher's discretion. Publishers had a fear of missing out phase about 2014-2016 where there was a feeding frenzy of game sales. In hindsight, they realize that was a mistake which is why those kinds of deep discounts don't happen anymore. It takes about three years now for successful AAA games to reach $15 or less. Complete game often ends up being $20 or more three years out. By contrast during the frenzy, AAA games were going for $7.49-9.99 all inclusive when the game was just a year or two old.

Apparently a few games were pulled from Epic due to not wanting to participate in the sale.

VTMB2, Oxyen Not Included, and Borderlands 3.
That confirms this sale is not EGS eating the difference, it's something the publishers had to agree to. If they did not, their store page was removed during the promotion. That's kind of shitty.

I'm eyeballing The Walking Dead: Final Season for $4.99 and Shadow Complex Remastered for $3.74...

Edit: Discovered I'm missing Walking Dead "A New Frontier" and "Michonne" too...yeah...pass. I'll just pretend the series ended with Season 2.

If you are following Clementine's story then you don't need TWD: Michonne. I picked up New Frontier and The Final Season for $5 each. I don't think they will ever be available on any other digital store so I went ahead and got an account just for these.

I don't want to sound corny but I feel like I have a little invested in seeing how things turn out for Clementine and interacting with the story progression where I can to hopefully reach a good ending for her.

If I don't feel like I am invested in the characters then I knock the story telling down a notch immediately. That feeling with the characters is what makes great games.

Agreed.
