I did the original campaign and a pair of raids after quitting wow and it was really good and engaging. If I were to return to an mmo I'd probably play this one over wow.

Same, I picked this up back when it came out as a break from WoW and really enjoyed it. I recently got an ultrawide and wanted to check out several games on it so I re-installed this and subbed. I think it has aged very nicely. It is good to see their user base this big, the game is deserving of it.

Released benchmark is pretty long, about 7 minutes of single run. I'm totally not into this series but i wanted to see how this benchmark is different from ffxv benchmark. Definitely much less demanding as it is running ok on my old gpu.

As this benchmark is pretty small in size (a bit over 2GB) i decided to check how it performs when loaded into ramdisk. There is no difference in score but is in loading times. Ryzen 2700x, ddr4 3000MHz 2x16GB dual channel and radeon r9 380 4GB, 1920x1080 maximum preset.
HDD: score 7179, total loading time: 27.083sec.
RAMdisk: score 7184, total loading time: 10.022sec.

@Solaris17 @bogmali I am transferring from Moogle Europe server, since I was in Europe for a few years. Transferring my main, which is a Paladin. Are either of you planning to be very active? Have room for me in a guild/clan/linkshell? I will transfer to your server if so. I was just going to pick random one, I don't really raid, I just enjoy the story, convos with people, 4 man dungeons, etc.

Let me know I will make sure I transfer to one of you, I prefer an active clan though if I am to join you, voice chat, etc.

Is it really that good? I've seen it on steam yesterday while I was looking through games and been wondering if it's time starting something new. Maybe FF XIV is the way to go :) 16milion people is quite impressive for any game. I understand it's purely online game?

Not trying to knock Balmung in any way! But I would be hesitant to recommend it to anyone looking to transfer.

A little history from someone who has been playing since 1.0...Balmung was one of the new servers from the 1st merger of servers (Fabul + Besaid) back when they removed/merged dead 1.0 servers.

FFXIV never had official RP servers like WOW did, even though the community asked for them. So people on the forums decided to make Balmung the “unofficial” RP server of 1.0.

When ARR came out square once again moved/added servers. The server me and my friends played on (Gungnir) became a Japanese server. Having played FFXI for many years we knew the latency involved with playing on servers so far away and decided to take advantage of the free transfer system that came with ARRs release.

At the time we all decided on Balmung, since it was a legacy server and figured it would provide us with the best chance at endgame players right from the start as at the time we was heavily focused on endgame.

The problem with Balmung, which again I’m not knocking the community at all, is that it remains a heavily congested server, because it’s still the main “RP” server, during main patches/next major releases. This makes for very long que times and at times severe server instability.

When stormblood came out it was a total nightmare as part of the main story quest was tied to an instanced fight....when most of the population was up to that point it overloaded the servers bringing them crashing down for days! This in itself sucked, but it made it even worse by stopping your progress. In FFXIV lot of times you can’t even access the higher level zones/quests until you are caught up/current with the main story while leveling!

Some google searches suggest 24 million players. Hope it helps :).

I played about 3 hours this morning... finally catching up on the MSQ patches I missed. I always beat every new expansion then come back a year or two later to catch up on MSQ patch quests... can't wait for Endwalker... its going to be soooo goood
