CCX Overclocking Tool for AMD CPUs Updated With New Features

Today an overclocking utility for AMD Ryzen CPUs called "Work Tool" has been updated with new features. The tool enables per-CCX overclocking, which is said to enable additional overclocking performance if one CCX is more capable than the other, so the whole CPU doesn't have to run at the speed of a slower CCX to be stable. The tool has been released by user shamino1978 on Overclock.net forums.

The reason for overclocking Ryzen CPUs on per CCX basis is because if you want to overclock a single core inside a CCX, the second core must run at a 1 GHz difference, meaning that if one core is OC'd to 4.5 GHz, the second core must run at 3.5 GHz. Such design is to be blamed on CPU's internal clock divider. However, you can use the Work Tool to do individual CCX overclocking and gain additional performance. Additionally, the tool has been updated to support tweaking of voltage aka VID. There are two versions of the tool, one which is smaller and has less features and one which can tweak the voltages. The smaller version is available here, while the bigger, more capable version is available here.

I'm really disappointed with the OC potential of ryzen3000. basically it just approached Intel 14nm and I would like to know or will be better with the R9 3950 model where they boasted with 5.2 gh OC working . This is not a gpu, although the intel coffee like it probably has an intergrated virtue and achieves on smaller resolutions a lot of advantage but at 4k the differences are almost alignment . Even ram contability lists have become shorter and reach 3433 Hz 2 channels and 2966Hz in all four. (PRESTIGE x570 board from MSI list). so I would briefly say that these little corrections do not give you confidence .The truth is different from the advertised and the regular price for ryzen R9 3900X is 777 € and online 621.66 € should bee 500$ which is much cheaper . I am very disappointed with the OC capability and I think that this is a very poor quality silicone where the main culprit for the results .This is my opinion .

Um, you're joking right?
Did you look at the poster's name ?

If anyone in the world outside AMD engineers knows something about the inner workings of AMD CPU's, that's 1usmus.

I totally trust his judgment and certainly don't want to burn my CPU for no good reason.

p.s.
@1usmus any ETA on the memory tool updated for Matisse ?

To be honest, no idea who they are. Shamino is well known, so there is that... If AMD themselves makes a statement saying that this utility might harm Ryzen 3xxx CPU's, that'll be something. Until then, I think Shamino(presuming it's actually him) has a little bit more credibility then someone coming into a thread screaming "BLAAAAAH".

1usmus is the programmer of the Ryzen DRAM calculator:

Not sure what kind of magic he used to get those numbers out, but they work ! Removes most of the guesswork from timings tightening and memory overclocking.
Love it !

So he clearly knows more than us about those CPUs.... heck, he might even secretly be an AMD employee ;)

Um, you're joking right?

No, on 4200mhz in the offset mode, the VRM controller goes crazy, supplying 1.4 volts to the AVX load, which is very much for this process technology. The FIT contains the maximum voltage for all cores of 1.325 volts, but this does not mean that we will see this voltage in AVX tasks. I strongly do not recommend using this horror.

P.s. I checked the words of this respected user (The Stilt)

1usmus is a trusted voice, but so is shamino.

My advice is to wait and see - dont start screwing around with this unless you're willing to risk your CPU and your board.

Interesting perspective. Considering the default voltage being applied by motherboards to Ryzen3xxx CPU's, it seems likely that it's not going to be of great concern. But then again you could be right.

AMD should just improve their OC features (not talking about overclockability headroom) to be onpar with Intel. When I had the 1700x, I was forced to use that ghetto p-state overclocking to be able to downclock the CPU at idle.

Delete this application and forget about existence, you will kill your processors!
This is hacking FIT limits, the last line of protection for the processor

If someone has a spare CPU & motherboard that they don't care about, would it not be a good idea to hook up a scope metre to the motherboard & record events to see if they is potential danger to the CPU. Sometimes it's better to get real evidence if there is a risk.

10 months ago, 5ghz 8 cores are coming, entry level, half of Intel price. Rip Intel

2 months ago, no 5ghz, thats unrealistic, are you dumb? Amd just needs 4,5ghz to defeat Intel on every scenario anyway. Rip Intel

Present day, let's spend hours on bios, ryzen master, special toolsz to squeze 100mhz, as our chips cant even sustain 4,2ghz all core turbo.

This is the usual cycle on Amd. I think all of this is pathetic. I have a job. I rather spend 50€/100€ more on something stable, thanks.

Implying that the stock processor is unstable in anyway way and manual overclocks requires no testing.
This is false for both Intel and AMD.
As usual all overclocking are done on your own risk. This does not change no matter what tool you are using.

not illegal to comment.
with all the hype for amd and heckling for intel's 14++++++++, zen 3000 topped 100mhz over zen 2000 so he's abolutely right.
sorry if that hurts you in a personal way.
amd never said they were gonna stomp intel like ppl like you on forums argued.
they released a very good family of cpus, most of them better value than intel counterparts, but the thing about amd smashing intel was due to internet hypeboys.

no,it's called "calling it as it is".
and this is mostly on people who hyped zen 2 on froums, not amd themselves.amd never promised anything remotely close to what people kept insisting zen 2 would be.
using a dangerous tool to prove a point that ryzen can do 4.5ghz is silly, just enjoy zen 3000 for what is,an excellent all round cpu with great energy efficiency.don't ruin it with a stupid tool.

I do understand your concern and I think you have a valid point here for users who have no idea what they are doing.

Shamino is a very well known overclocker since 2000. This tool is a very good addition for advanced users who want to overclock. Also make point that if people want to be an overclocker then they must have ways to log motherboard and cpu voltages to see any danger that could cause to their cpus.

Also remember that overclocking could include all types of hacks, your own risk if you decide to use it.
