Microsoft Bags DOD's $10 Billion JEDI Cloud Contract Edging Out Amazon

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) Friday awarded a USD $10 billion contract to Microsoft to build the JEDI Cloud (Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure), a massive piece of connected IT infrastructure that seeks greater electronic integration within the U.S. Military, and prepare it for emerging forms of warfare. According to the New York Times, Amazon was the front-runner for the contract, having executed similar infrastructure contracts for the CIA. The NYT comments that President Donald Trump's spat with The Washington Post, a paper owned by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, could have affected Amazon's bid. Some of the biggest American cloud companies participated in the bidding, which include Amazon AWS, Microsoft, IBM, Google, and Oracle.

Being honest, Amazon is losing these contracts because AWS has become an absolute mess both in terms of product stack and billing. Microsoft continues to take a considered approach to its product stack, and whilst billing could be better, its still much easier to understand than Amazons clusterfuck.

On top of that, whilst most of your workload might be unix based, Amazon's penalty for running Microsoft workloads in AWS is frankly ridiculous, where as Microsoft doesn't do this bullshit.

I Dont understand why the NYT comment has anything to do with this article. Trump is not the only one who has problems with the liberal supposedly news. I am sure that Trump doesnt have the final say on these contracts . Seems to me that if Amazon already has a huge contract why not give Microsoft a chance too.

Well I do enjoy Amazon (It is the realization from the back of comic books) but there should be room in the North American economy for both to exist. Too bad there are not enough well paying jobs to produce the dispensable income needed to support both. On a serious note even when the box stores like Tiger Direct, NCIX and Canada Computers were thriving I would still order things on Amazon or Newegg due to availability or new tech.
