AMD Radeon Pro 5000M Series Mobile GPUs Bring High-Performance AMD RDNA Architecture to Apple's New 16-inch MacBook Pro

hmm AMD in an Apple PRO

hmm AMD in an Apple PRO
Apple has been sourcing AMD GPUs for quite some time now. Before Navi was Vega, and before Vega was Polaris in MBP upgrades. Apple and nVidia don’t appear to get along very well.

Anytime I want more gpu performance all I have to do is plug my laptop into its gpu dock on the desk that also gives me a bunch of extra IO or use my desktop. Not sure why, but you seem to think money is the only factor in choosing a system. Some of us have enough money to buy what we want and benefit from it.

In a year or two I'll sell my blade for around 1500, and replace it with something better. Meanwhile your 2080ti will have depreciated to around a third of its RRP.

I'm not saying you made a horrible choice -- I like the RB, and I really like what they're doing with it -- but you're way understating the cut in performance for the LAPTOP aspect of it. The reason I'm talking about $ is because that's a good way to generalize what kind of performance you COULD have with a non-laptop. I am all for spending ludicrous amounts of money for high end gaming experiences. (and btw I sold my e-gpu solution a little over a year ago and put that GPU in a rig).

So let's play out your scenarios here:

option 1: E-gpu:
$2600 + $300 for enclosure +$900 3080ti (let's just assume it will be there) = with a 25% slower proc and a 10% thunderbolt/egpu port penalty $3800 for a machine that's 15% slower and ur stuck on a desk and you're on a 15" screen unless you spend even more on a monitor.
option 2: sell and buy another blade
$2600 initial -$1500 sale + $2600 for another blade with a 3070 = $3700 for a 40% slower machine

Option 1 for a desktop
High end: $2600 initial - $400 cheap sale of 2080ti + $900 3080ti = $3100 for a higher end gaming experience from 40% to 10% faster depending on above.
Option 2 (midrange)
let's say $1500 Sell the 2080 or the 2070 super - $300 +$900 buy a 3080ti +$250 for a ryzen 4600 = $2350 for a better gaming machine

So even worst case scenario it's still not close. And if you spend the same amount of money on a desktop, you get MUCH better gaming experience, and if you want the same gaming experience (or slightly faster even) you can have it for roughly half the cost.

now multiply that difference across the next 20 years of your gaming career and that's alot of money to spend so you can sit in front of a 15" screen with 2 little hairdryers attached to it.

Once again you're focusing on money as the primary factor in choosing hardware.

So focus on the experience.

It's mid range gaming pc with a tiny 15" 1080P screen with 2 little hairdryers attached to it.

And you have one? I have a desktop and a laptop and I don't find the experience bad at all on the laptop.

Let people enjoy things and stop being a fascist about the one true way to experience.

Dude, of the 3 people in this thread that commented on laptops, at least 2 used to exclusively game on laptops. Myself included.

No one stopped you from anything, you just rolled in here all insecure about your purchase, and declared that "all the laptop haters were people who dont know how to buy and configure laptops"

They're not. It's just a fact. No one is fascist and no one is stupid. I'm very happy for you that you like your razer, cool gadgets are cool.

Still can't just let it go huh? Apparently I'm now insecure since I went over the good parts of laptop gaming compared to the exclusive bad aspects previously stated.

No, you're insecure since you're trying to convince yourself that people who don't like laptops for gaming aren't doing it right, and then call people fascists when they point out why you're wrong.

People who buy undercooled badly designed pieces of shit then complain that laptops are bad don't know how to shop.

Fascism is intolerance of ideas other than your own.

I own both laptops and desktops and they are both good.

Nothing you have said has invalidated any of the points of my original post.

It's a little extreme to accuse someone of that for saying "I don't think your laptop is that awesome, bro." no? That's why I think ur a bit insecure, almost like there is a tiny voice in your head that's going "Stefan... you waste your money bro... you bought this thing and it's cool but you still game on your desktop".

And the points you made were:
4. Your laptop is awesome
(invalidated by the fact that it's worse in all measurable gaming aspects, other than portability, than your 2 year old gaming desktop that you paid less for and has a bigger nicer screen).

4a. People dislike laptops for gaming because they're confused and buy bad laptops.

It's not worse though. I can game on my laptop between work on the train, on the plane, at a friend's etc, a lot better than not being able to game at all. My desktop sits at home being used by nothing for the majority of time. Plus the desktop was actually more expensive.

Why don't you just agree to disagree and stop trying to convince me that the form factor of the future is worse.

A fascist is a follower of a political philosophy characterized by authoritarian views and a strong central government — and no tolerance for opposing opinions. Nothing specifying far right.

Fascist is a follower of far right Fascism....

not what that means.

You missed the big link in the first entry "left wing fascism"... I guess it's hard for you to understand that it's not about political left or right, but rather characterised by a groups attitude to those outside their group.

Far right is the current boogeyman so a lot of definitions place emphasis on that.

But by all means let's continue this pointless discussion until the great mods come and delete it for being "off topic".

No. Fascism is a well defined and is a far-right ideology.
There's also something called "left-wing fascism", but it's not a type of fascism (as in: fascism doesn't fork into "right" and "left").
It's a different phenomenon that says: left-wingers can be d..ks too.

You have a problem with "tolerance of ideas other than your own", but that doesn't make you a fascist. There are many better words to describe this, but I'm not sure admins would approve any of them.

Betcha if I just say this, you'll make another post to have the last word...

Before the thread gets the ax, I will say that over at Anandtech, they discussed the 16” MBP in more detail, and the device is thicker and heavier than the 15(.4)” model it replaces. The other big improvement past the keyboard and display was a beefed up cooling system that is able to handle more heat. So while we don’t know how the 16” will do, we can at least expect improvements over the old model.

And as each day pass by, the more I feel like these discussion threads are rapidly turning into Wccftech "fork stab the opinnions" fest with almost non-existent moderation. *Yawn*
