Half-Life: Alyx Officially Revealed, Will Release March 2020

What I keep hearing and the Steam Hardware Survey says as well, about 1% of gamers have a VR set. Valve knows this and they probably don't expect to make a profit on this game. It's likely that they will lose money. They are pushing VR for whatever reason but making money off of this game isn't the reason.

Don't forget about the EGS/Steam marketshare battle because that is Valve's core business right now. Remember how Steam gained its share... This timing is not coincidental, hell we damn well predicted it about 100 times.

I don't care about VR and I'm not buying it to play this.

Game looks fantastic. Won't be dropping a thousand dollars to play it though. Looking forward to future non-VR Half Life titles.

Well they're at least guaranteed to do better than Artifact.

Though I love HL games, and would love to be immersed in it again, I ain't gonna pony up the equivalent of 1k USD just to play this game, no way!

The game actually looks amazing, and for me that's the saddest part. Next to no one will get to play it. As a huge HL fan, I'm definitely not dishing out $500 (or more) for a VR headset just to play this game.
I understand what Valve is trying to do here, but no matter how much people love the franchise, it's not gonna make them spent a thousand bucks on Index.

The shit I took yesterday was better than Artifact.

+1000 ! i'll just pass.
You guys do realize there are other supported VR headsets with a lower cost than $1000/$500?

VR is starting to become mainstream and essential for immersion, especially for driving sims that make you feel like you are actually in the car. The Star Wars VR is a must have for space sims. Lucasarts or Disney needs to update all their previous space sims like Tie Fighters and X-wing Alliance. Same with Wing Commander series, Freespace series, and the upcoming Star Citizen.

VR is not there yet. You need a system with a beefy video card to produce 2x 90 FPS at minimum, or when the VR kit has a single screen, solid 90FPS.

If your system cant you'll be suffering from motion sickness fast enough. Ive attempted to play VR games on the PS4 Pro. Some of 'm are really cool, others just dont click when it comes to playing FPS games (Doom VR for example).

I don't know, but looks like they know the limitations of VR and probably they have something up their sleeves that isn't as immersive as VR but gives a similar experience. I suppose the VR controls will stay but maybe a headset with just motion or eye tracking to properly look in the game in a similar manner to VR while using a regular monitor would be a good middle ground solution and quite more affordable. I'm intrigued if they have this planned or they will just jump into the pool without water.

Valve don't make games anymore, but when they do it's still better than the 99% of console trash we have to deal with these days.

Dude people love fast food styled console trash. Why risk innovating in something new when the player base thrive on trash games?

It is human nature after all. Refuse to try out new things which is totally OK.

Th...r....ee......

Not human nature, just East Asian (ex: Japanese) one.

Wow.

Yeah. We totally don't see behavior like that anywhere else. /s

I mean, the Japanese made the friggin Wii, and I hated that thing for requiring me to... move.

All it took was a wrist flick, unless your referring to the later controllers with a gyroscope (Wii MotionPlus.)

Point is it was something new. I wasn't trying to excuse my lazy ass from excercise of any sort, more poking fun at my past self.

I'm not really into VR, but it does look like an exciting game. I always liked Alyx and thought she was a good character in the franchise.

Announcing a long anticipated game and to have it be an exclusive VR only title is horrible. I looked into the cheapest way to get a VR headset and assuming the PC already exists and its still in the $400 range.

I love the Half Life series but this is up their with Blizzard's fiasco at last years Blizzcon.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey+ Headset is on sale for $229, although that depends on where you are.
The Windows Mixed Reality headsets are supported for the new Half-Life game.

Still $230 is a lot for one game that is single player.

It isn’t worth it imho. Not to mention people who have physical limitations that prevent them from using VR.
