TUL Corporation, parent of the leading and innovative AMD Graphics Card Manufacturing brand, PowerColor, announces their latest cards in their lineup, PowerColor Red Dragon RX 5500 XT 8 GB and PowerColor RX 5500 XT 4 GB. Powered by the the newest and most advanced 7 nm RDNA architecture with GDDR6 VRAM, the RX 5500 series features performance delivery optimized for better visuals such as volumetric lighting, motion blurring effects, depth of field, and multi-level cache hierarchy for reduced latency and a highly responsive gaming experience.

PowerColor's newest RX 5500 XT series is a perfect match for 1080p gaming, reaching 60 FPS on AAA gaming titles on high graphics settings, and over 90 FPS on the leading e-sports titles. AMD's newest lineup of features on their Radeon Graphics Drivers enhances the experience further with settings such as Radeon Image Sharpening and FidelityFX for maximum performance and insane immersive gaming experiences as well Radeon Anti-Lag for highly responsive gaming.

All models come equipped with the most advanced GDDR6 Memory and feature the Mute Fan Technology that intelligently turns off fans below 60°C to provide for a quiet gaming session during medium and low loads while reducing power consumption. Both cards adopt the Mute Fan Technology that intelligently turns off the fan when the temperature is below 60°C, providing silent gaming during medium and low load while reducing power consumption simultaneously.

For protecting from the PCB bending, GPU and components, the PowerColor Red Dragon RX 5500 XT 8 GB comes with a 1.5 mm metal back plate for creating one tough solid card. Both models come with Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition (base game + expansion) as well as Xbox Game pass as bundle.

Such a damn shame this card is a total dud. If it was set at $150 for it then good. But nope. Currently better to buy a RX 580 as it's cheaper and same performance.

Maybe drivers may fix it like in the past.

Just grab a 5600/XT

This is a 1650 Super-1660 contender.

This is a 1650 Super-1660 contender.

Price is rather high though. If it was about 50 - 70 $ less, then it would be good.

MSI be like,

"There can only be one dragon".

Meanwhile, linking to the useful part of the review:

The 5500xt is neck and neck with the 1650 super. Not a contender for the 1660, noticeable performance difference.

The 1650 super is available for $159. $209 buys you a 1660. At $169, the 8GB 5500xt MAY have some value, but even the its inability to perform reasonably above 1650 super levels means that VRAM is wasted. At $169, the 4GB card is a bad deal, identical performance for $10 more then nvidia. worse, custom 4GB 5500xts are usually $5-10 over MSRP. That $159 1650 super has a custom cooler on it. In this bracket, every $ matters. At $199, the 8GB 5500xt is a complete dud. $10 less then a 1660 with nowhere near the performance to justify the price.

This is only a contender for hardcore team red's money. The market is going to favor the more competitive geforce cards (man that feels weird to type). AMD lost the plot here.

Price might be high, but it's 10 maybe 20 bucks high, nowhere 50-70, WTF.

It's $200 USD when the 1650 Super is about $160. They need to be more competitive in pricing. Especially since even mod range cards are too pricy. And I'm in Canada, so if will be priced even higher.

That's true, yes. But is there performance charts for it?

Still faster than 1650s:

Thanks for the videos. Techyes also did one where the 5500XT 8GB scored very well. So I may have been somewhat premature in my critique of the cards
