China announced that it will reduce import tariffs on several U.S. commodities, including certain kinds of technology. This is a sign of easing tensions between the United States and China on its devastating trade-war waged between 2017-19 that wiped billions of Dollars of value from the capital markets and saw increases in prices of goods around the world. The exhaustive list of 859 commodities covers raw materials for a variety of polymers and plastics found in consumer durables, raw materials for energy storage devices, certain kinds of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, photo and video imaging equipment (camera components), LCD and OLED display components. There are hundreds of other commodities from other industries, covering food, industrial automation, and agriculture.

The items on China's updated import tariffs list amounts to some USD $389 billion in annual trade, or about 18 percent of China's annual imports. The cuts in import tariffs are expected to not just benefit U.S. exporters to China, but also stimulate similar import tariff cuts from the U.S. in response. China has an insatiable appetite for camera equipment, and has eased imports of OLED and certain semiconductor manufacturing equipment, which could have a trickle-down effect on the tech industry. Find the complete schedule of goods with updated import tariffs here. We've machine translated relevant pages in the screenshots below.

Now, if only they would refrain from copying/ripping & knocking-off almost any tech related goods that the get from the US, then turn around and resell them back to us at 1/4 - 1/2 the price, and thereby double-dipping on both the import & export stats....

It ultimately falls on the people of the country. You can support domestic products and pay more or you can cry that everything is too expensive and buy cheap knock offs. Seeing the markets for cheap knock offs, you can see what peoples' choice has been.

In that sense, I don't fault China a bit. They are just filling a market need. I fault the schmucks who buy the knock offs and then complain about the economy and jobs.

Create a problem that could have at least been fought-worked through without jumping off the cliff of crazy tariffs straight away. It gave him big talk and little to no action for 3 years. Now he's need a way to wrap it up claim "victory" and tell trumpers to blow his message at rallies that he got in there and fought hard... sure! He's not scarred... but all of us got a beating in higher costs, lost revenues, and subsidizing farmers. Now let's "for-get -about-it" like the "birther BS" he perp'd on the nation and then said butkus ever again and we let him off the hook. This from a former "Wally George" Republican back in the day... till I grew up!

Actually, No. Every administration back to Clinton, scratch that, Bush 41 has had zero backbone to have any success in getting China to acquiesce to fair trade. No one has had any success without taking it to the limit. Do some research first before commenting on International Affairs and stop getting political. There was nothing political in the news OP.

Yeah. I agree, but you know how toxic these issues are. Still, bta did good here writing a neutral piece. Bravo.

He has to be neutral because he doesn't live in the US, if he wrote libel he'd receive a firestorm.

So PSU prices will go back to normal ?

Yeah IP theft from China won't stop. Trump got his political mouthpiece and circus show accomplished though, that is all he really cares about. Trump is more of A-Political flip flopper classic elite politician than people give him credit for. Ironic that people voted him in because he wasn't one of those swamp members. He is good at illusions though I give him that much, more power to him I guess, I could care less anymore.

It isn't theft anymore. These companies know the terms and conditions of doing business with China and they choose to continue. Why do they continue? Because they need prices lower to keep making profits as consumers continually want lower prices. There is only one way out of this.

Thread cleansed from all unnecessary political banter....leave that stuff at the door gents, don't need it here and the next person that pushes their luck gets their holiday vacation present;)

I think we are all guilty of not doing the morallyy right thing. Just a little while ago I was having this discussion with a friend about not buying pc components made in China. Very hard to do as there are many China and all the westerm companies who are producing it in within there. design in yours truly, but produced over there :)

We are turning a blind eye to the working conditions of people over there as well as technological know how transfer from west to there. Just so we can produce and sell it 10 dollar cheap. We might not see the implications of it at present but very soon in the future we will, and we will all be hitting our heads to the wall because of it.

I feel sorry for our mods. Every thread that mentions China turn into shit sandwiches.

I like how "Dollars" is spelled with a capital "D" in the first paragraph. Shows the world's priorities quite well, doesn't it?
Screw environment, screw overpopulation, screw declining quality of life. Just think of the almighty Dollars. Of which you won't see many, because it's corporate Dollars we're talking about, but oh well ;)

It's pretty easy really. Especially when you figure out that there is no red or blue. Just shades of purple. Or different cheeks of the same ass if you will.
