CD Projekt Red has come out on Twitter with an important announcement regarding the release of their highly-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 game: a five month delay which pushes release to September, instead of the previously-set launch on April 16th. CD Projekt Red said that "We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there's still work to be done. Night City is massive - full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, finishing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for the generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect." Launching so late into the year does pose questions regarding launch on the next-gen Xbox Series X and PS5 systems; but the developer has already told us the game won't be available on those on launch day.

Game delays are usually taken with disappointment. This editor, however, would like to point out that CD Projekt Red has a proven track record in delivering genre-defining experiences. The Witcher 3 was such for RPGs and fantasy settings; the developer is certainly aiming for no less than the same effect with Cyberpunk 2077 and its FPS gameplay. I, for one, don't mind having a delay on such a game. I'd much rather have it in my hands perfectly polished rather than risk a new Mass Effect: Andromeda situation that could risk killing a new franchise and game world - especially one so interesting as that of Cyberpunk 2077. Patience is a virtue. I believe CD Projekt Red will do everything in their power to make it a game worth our while.

rip dreams.
Wouldn't be surprised this is just the first delay, just like TW3

Time takes time. CDPR will deliver a massive game when it is released and they have already said that it will be much bigger than Witcher 3 and they have a much larger development team working on Cyberpunk 2077.

I see no reason for disappointment for the delay. It's much better to have the game when it's fully ready to be enjoyed than to rush it out in April with potentially a lot of bugs and possibly game breaking bugs like some Publishers do. I'm looking at you EA.

I'd rather the game be delayed than be released with tons of bugs. So good on them for accepting it and delaying the game.

Pretty normal for such a big scope game (open world with tall buildings with 10s of apartments). If September is the final date and the game is stable enough to play it to the end without nasty bugs, I will be very satisfied.

Perfect, frees up April that's already packed with interesting releases.

FF VII Remake has delayed, this has delayed... let's hope that RE3 won't have delays.

Yeah, RE3 & FF VII Remakes :toast:

Oh man! That was my birthday game. Gosh darn it. Still, I'll play it with my RTX Super 3080ti GTI.

Hmmm.... I wonder if it launches alongside with the new generation of nVidia cards...coincidence? or I could be wrong.

Funny how usually this is sort of bad news because it suggests the game wasn't anywhere near ready and the development process could be facing serious problems, but since it's CDPR it's alright.

Witcher 3 was also delayed. I do not think anyone can disagree that it was a good thing.
"When it is done", remember those words.

Or it could be that they don't want to pull an EA and drop a steaming turd-pile on their fans like EA did by rushing Mass Effect: Andromeda out before it was ready and then having BioWare patch it later on when a lot of gamers were already done with it. Meanwhile the game became the joke of the Internet.

Could be, but 5 months is a lot in game development world, a change like that isn't insignificant. I'd be slightly concerned if a was a raging Cyberpunk 2077 fan.

Here we go, a Star Citizen repeat, delayed development.... :shadedshu:

Good, gives me time to actually give a crap! I am not impressed with early game play videos. Besides the point I will need to upgrade my aging RX470 and I am in no hurry to to that, seeing GPU's prices and performance per $ have gone to the crapper!

If I remember correctly CD-Project love their day 1 patches as well!

When CDPR starts selling space ships and packages of space ships that range all the way up to $27,000 and knick knacks to adorn your hangar and virtual plots of land for Cyberpunk 2077 then I will associate Cyberpunk 2077 with Cloud Imperium.

fixed to be more clear.

almost every mmo has these patches, its been the norm since 2004.

Honestly I don't think this is another Star Citizen even though CDPR is delaying its release. Star Citizen has been getting one delay after another since it's original target release date of 2014. Granted the first delay was to radically increase the scope of Star Citizen but CDPR started out with a huge scope for Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 is simply not up to CDPR's standards and they aren't going to release it until it is.

I don't get it. Any game that gets delayed is akin to Cloud Imperium?
How many games has CDPR finished? - 6 released titles, 1 released and actively updated, 1 unreleased that has been delayed
How many has CIG finished? - 0..that's a ZERO.
Don't really see much of a correlation there

I hope you're right here, but anytime a major release, for any developer, chances are there will be another delay after such a long delay, snowballs happen unplanned or not.

too much riding on this, this makes sense

I agree with this wholeheartedly...my knee-jerk reaction was to be sad/angry that it was pushed back. But this is the cost of excellence, I'd rather the play the game polished and delivered as intended by CDPR. Screw the studios that release buggy software on time or let things wallow in early access hell after getting their payout.

5 months later : Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed to 2021 May
Please no lol...I've already been hurt by the news today. :D
