The "Game Mode" toggle Microsoft introduced with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709), is designed to improve gaming performance by prioritizing system resources for the game at the expensive of background processes, and preventing Windows Update from performing any automatic tasks (such as GPU driver updates, which would most certainly ruin your game). With "Call of Duty Warzone," however, this toggle appears to be having the opposite effect.

The Game Mode toggle reportedly causes Warzone to stutter, and sometimes even freeze. Apparently Windows 10 doesn't recognize it as a game. The issue affects users of both AMD and NVIDIA graphics hardware. It has so far been reproduced on the likes of the GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 980, RX 5700 XT, RX 570, RX 480, and R9 290. For now there's no workaround other than to simply disable Game Mode in Windows Settings. Find it in the "Gaming" section.

^^^ This....Did the same thing..

"Game Mode" on my 8-core always seemed like a stupid idea anyways. I've always had it off.

This game mode had alot of problems in other games as well, just turn it off. Honestly i do not see the reason windows tries to pack more things than what is necessary and not just have the rest through the store

I only use it on my work laptop to record meetings.

Might be why The Outer Worlds was stuttering on ultra for me!

not surprised m$ failed here, the sheer amount of games on the market is overwhelming and makes it tough to keep updated list.

i think this game mode is only for older systems like core2duo and single cores.
cannot find page where it said that.
why Ms does not automatically disable it if it finds a newer processor?

Game mode helps quite a bit for me. For games that have a CPU bottleneck I have noticed a decent change to minimum frame rates when things get busy.

Before game mode I would use another tool to set whatever game I'm playing to above normal.

If people turn things off with never using them they cannot really provide objective feedback on the function.

Ryzen 3700, 32Gb RAM

would ya be so kind and tell us which games? a amd 3700 has a cpu bottleneck?

maybe then we could be more objective

What CPU is problematic for Game Mode. I heard that only the newish ones...
How about a good ol' i7 3770K one?

MWO, PUBG. If an online game requires you to be in a queue and you have a browser windows open in the background or other programs is where game mode helps.

Isn't this standard operating procedure of any game rig's first boot since this OS version?

MS should automate this through an App and sell it on the Store. I think its a gold mine.

I guess, or you can just not run twenty tabs in a browser, that in many situations never gets restarted.

Maybe I'm strange but if I want performance I run my system as lean and light as possible while gaming. Everything else is a band aid and it won't work flawlessly, as evident here.

If you run nothing else at the same time then game mode won't do much for you. For me, I play a game here and there between other tasks making it a useful feature.

you mean you want M$ to sell you a fix for a problem that doesnt exist..?

clicking on settings, searching for game bar/game mode and flicking them off hardly takes 10 years off my life.

Ive probably saved you enough money to buy yourself a peice of chocolate from the shop. I wont charge you for that money saving tip though.

It was sarcasm :)

Good that I am still on Windows 7 to have all the time the best performance.

Could've easily offset these issues by adding an option to manually add an executable to the list. But giving users control isn't exactly Microsoft's thing these days.

Several Russian, botnet maintainers agree.

Rule #1 of good gaming: do NOT allow Windows to interfere with anything gaming-related.

I have it on and theres no impact but then again i also cook my project and compile in VS while playing

Another gimmick setting ... sigh
