Someone at Bethesda or id Software thought it was a good idea to retrofit "Doom Eternal" with the vastly unpopular Denuvo DRM as an anti-cheat component, two months following its March launch, as part of "Update 1" (a major game patch). This invited the wrath of gamers as they review-bombed the game on Steam. The game's executive producer Marty Stratton took to Reddit, to announce that Denuvo will be removed in the game's next update (without announcing a timeline), while defending it. Stratton maintains that the performance issues noticed in Update 1 are not related to the Denuvo implementation. If you've read our comprehensive review of Denuvo, where we go into the technical aspects of the DRM solution, you'll know that it can be implemented in a number of ways, some of which inflict performance penalties.

Well, at least they recognize people don't like that. But I'm pissed they still want to push shit like this even when time and time again there have been a lot of controversy with Denuvo.

If I were into corporate stuff I would patent PR courses for soft brained investors and high rank executives. DENUVO POOPOO *slaps the executive in the hand*

Half crying internet. So if the game is being taken over by cheats and your playing vs botting players, the fun is out of the game really really fast.

A good anticheat needs kernel access. Otherwise cheats could be nested on kernel level too or even a more complicated virtual level, outside of the OS, unable to be detected by any anticheat.

Come'on. Like you really miss out when going from 240fps to 237fps. Life and death situation right there. Geezus.

No. Just, no. Even if you are one of the self-harmers who thinks injecting the Windows kernel with half a dozen Sony Rootkit 2.0's is a good idea (one for Denuvo AC, one for Vanguard, one for EAC, etc), single-player campaigns should not under any circumstances 'need' this junk, especially in a franchise which originally came with IDDQD (in-game cheat codes)...

And who exactly cares about multiplayer in this game to let this thing on his computer? This is not fucking quake, no one cares.

Also, it's not a matter of just loosing some fps, the game crashes now and has abnormal behavior which some symptoms are similar with bad implementations of Denuvo.

Also also, why activating it on single player?

Benchmark Scores What's a "benchmark"?
"vastly unpopular Denuvo DRM". Well, brain cancer can also be called a "vastly unpopular condition".

You can also say that fighting money laundering only requires you to give up your privacy so that some official can look down everyone's pants. Life and death situation right there. Geezus.
Ring 0 drivers can screw up a lot of things if they are poorly written, as Sony's rootkit has proven some time ago. They can also screw up your privacy, as many other rootkits and keyloggers still continue to prove. Do you trust a greedy corporation with a history of shady practices and a rather lax approach to security to install a rootkit on your personal device? Apparently many people see a problem here.
