CD Projekt Red announced that the cumulative sale of games in the Witcher franchise has surpassed the 50 million mark. This news comes three years after the developer broke through the 25 million mark on the same franchise, and speaks to the intemporality that can be achieved by games developed during the last gen. While there will always be improvements in graphics technologies (though the diminishing returns equation is already definitely present), it can be said that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still remains a beautiful game today. This is true even if you don't consider the numerous graphical improvement mods that have been made available since; and that helps games keep their sales momentum for many more years than those developed in previous gens.

Sales of games on The Witcher franchise have obviously increased following Netflix's successful adaptation of the universe for its The Witcher streaming series, with original author of The Witcher, Andrzej Sapkowski, also enjoying increased book sales in the same period. It's a circular system of sorts - and a well deserved one for CD Projekt Red. Here's hoping the developers can achieve the same level of acclaim (and sales) on their Cyberpunk 2077 project - only four months to go now.

The Witcher 3 may be one of the greatest titles of all times, kudos for the team at Poland.

But that screenshot for the CB2077 is not correct, the Studio is not the old one anymore, they setup an internal Ethics Dept like Square Enix, it's in the latest Investor Relations report (Pg18) and considering all the latest "PC" drama happening with the game news. And the art style of that screenshot from 2013 teaser is not there in this game, now It just looks like a glorified GTA with ugly GFX fidelity (from the demos), and the model used for MoCap for 2013 Teaser/Screenshot is not there as well apparently as the latest Female V is not at all like that on the Box or game art or even before that V doesn't look like that at all.

It's very worrying. I've had it with games going all PC trying to avoid angering some twitter account or special interest group. the only group that should matter to a game dev is the gamers that buy it, and repeatedly its been shown that those whining about how offensive things are DONT BUY GAMES.

If CP2077 tuens out to just be GTA V with more side activities I'll be rather let down, especially after the witcher 3 was so good.

They rejected Anita Sarkeesian's threatening tactics to try and get on the production team as some sort of advisor. That to me says enough about CDPR and their game. This is their dream and they wont allow external influences to control the direction its heading in.

The Witcher 2 AoK is woefully underplayed, according to Steam only a mere 30% of players have even completed Chapter 1. The second instalment is a little jankier than its successor but I still can't believe so many people are choosing to miss out on the story.

So the game world looks like an actual functioning world and not a Blade Runner-esque anti-utopia, that's your complaint? The fact that the game is nothing like the CGI trailer from 7 years ago does not bother me one bit cause I've seen the 1 hour long gameplay footage and it is stellar, aside from hammy dialogue and everyone seemingly being a dick for no reason.

The 2013 trailer was a cinematic trailer just there to set the tone. (Cyberpunk, body modification involved, and violence) The witcher 3 had cinematic trailers showing fictionals events/characters as well.

And V isn't a fixed female or male character. You can change his face, skin color, body type... it's no different than the generic dragonborn of Skyrim. He's a Nord, but you can play as a khajit, what's up with that ?

I don't mean to be rude, but some of your points make it sounds like you didn't follow the communication around the game.

I’m with YOU on this one. IDK what he’s talking about looking GTA V -like. To me GTA V looks cartoony, nothing I have seen so far from Cyberpunk 2077 looks cartoony in the slightest.

I just don't think I will be able to get used to first person gameplay in cyberpunk 2077, i'd much prefer third person so i could enjoy the FOV more

I thought I was the last third person in the world ;) That's one of the reasons I enjoyed Dead Space so much and Warframe as well.

I spent basically all my teenage years playing third person games, Prince of Persia trilogy on playtstation 2 was next level and way ahead of its time, I played the SOCOM US Navy Seals shooter on ps2 as well a crap ton... also a third person game. I just prefer third person... its my style. First Person for some reason ruins immersion for me, it makes me feel "limited"

Because you are as your basically taking advantage of any situation in 3rd person.

1st person all the way for my self, makes you think harder more surprises that way too. Although RDR2 i run 3rd person some time's but that's due to how dam nice they made those horses.

I just hope it don't turn out like another Deus ex, as much as i loved the original never been that into them since.

Maybe one day, i still think it's not worth it. They cannot get a good story in a game right 1/2 the time in games never mind VR.

MAYBE when it becomes more of a norm.

I disagree I think third person makes you think harder cause it shows you diff avenues to bring together into a larger overall strategy

Agreed. I am very concerned, but we'll see what happens. I did cancel my pre-order of CP2077 after some of the SJW related things that went down some months back with the CC system.

I love Witcher 2. I know Witcher 3 is considered a masterpiece, but I honestly love Witcher 2 just about as much as 3.

I thought the combat in Witcher 3 was a little boring. I think the best combat of any game I have ever played was probably Prince of Persia Warrior Within on playstation 2. Those were the glory days

While that is a good example, I'm still very much partial to the combat system of Secret of Mana(Seiken Densetsu 2) for the SNES.

Giving the player the ability to see around corners and where the character's eyes can't see isn't making things harder, it's essentially cheating. 3rd person shooters are casual shooters.

3rd person is fine for strategy based games but being 3rd person, it's far less immersive. CP Project Red choose well when they choose first person.

That is your opinion. My opinion is that it makes it more engaging especially of the game offers a lot of variables and opportunities for strategy in positioning. Also, with drones and advanced optics being used on modern battlefields, I would argue third person is actually more accurate in modern combat than first.

Third person may be more engaging from a gameplay perspective, but if it is realism you want, then it must be 1st person.

You won’t get the option for third person combat in a real gunfight, with all its limitation on perspective etc. You’re going to see what you see in your field of view when it cones to life-threatening combat, no matter how many drones and advanced optics are on the the battlefield.
