ASUS Unveils ProArt Display PA32UCX-PK: 32-inch UHD with Off-Axis Contrast Optimization

ASUS today unveiled the ProArt Display PA32UCX-PK professional monitor. This 32-inch 4K UHD monitor features Off-Axis Contrast Optimization, and is targeted specifically at professionals working on HDR content. It offers an IPS panel with 1,152-zone dimming Mini LED illumination, 1,200 nits maximum brightness, DisplayHDR 1000 certification, 1,000,000:1 native contrast ratio (not dynamic contrast ratio), and certification for Dolby Vision, HDR-10, and HLG. Among its color reproduction chops include ΔE < 1, 99% DCI-P3, 99.5% Adobe RGB, and 100% sRGB/Rec. 709. Inputs include Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. The company didn't reveal pricing.

At least on paper, DP1.2 has enough bandwidth to handle up to 4K at 60 Hz even with 10 bit per color, uncompressed. If this panel is 60 Hz, then there is no need for more.

Supposedly DP1.2 doesn't support HDR. So it might be a mistake, or ASUS surely aiming this monitor for high end pigeons and not "professionals working on HDR content".

Not sure who has the specs wrong but they list contrast as 1000:1 @btarunr

High bpc is supported in all DP versions. The thing about HDR seems to be some sort of metadata. however DP1.2 lacks support for Bt.2020 color space, which is sort of required for HDR10, so maybe it's only fully supported over HDMI? It would be weird if that were the case, though...

High bpc is supported in all DP versions. The thing about HDR seems to be some sort of metadata. however DP1.2 lacks support for Bt.2020 color space, which is sort of required for HDR10, so maybe it's only fully supported over HDMI? It would be weird if that were the case, though...

It doesn't matter if DP1.2 supports HBR, and has a high enough brandwith to supports 4K; it's a very high end/premium HDR monitor aimed at HDR content creators, you don't sell it with half the I/O that doesn't support HDR.

HDMi 2.0b supports HDR and HLG, but it's very silly for a monitor that will surely be sold at around $2000 to have such a skimpy I/O.

To be honest, I missed the MiniLED part, as I'm so used to the same crap monitor press releases.

I would expect the real contrast ratio is most likely 1200:1, but maybe if they have plenty of dimming zones, it's at least possible to get 10000:1 or possibly better, but halos and dimming zones go together like ham and eggs! I guess we will have to wait for reviews. It's going to have a crazy price tag anyway, but its good to dream!
