Microsoft in a statement announced they have halted production of the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, the current-generation consoles that are currently being sold under the Xbox brand. The move comes in preparation for the "Holiday 2020" release of the Xbox Series X and its badly-kept secret sister, the (likely?) Xbox Series S. This will allow the retail channel to digest available inventory and open up space for the impending consoles' release.

This move by Microsoft all but confirms that the company will be launching a companion, lower-priced, lower-performing console alongside the Xbox Series X. Microsoft knows that launching the most powerful console also means (most likely) launching the most expensive one, and the company knows they must cater to more budget-conscious consumers as well. Check after the break for the complete Microsoft statement.

At Xbox, we're making massive investments to forge the future of gaming—a future that puts the player at the center of the Xbox experience. We continue to build great games for Xbox One. We continue to build out Game Pass, now with more than 10 million members across Xbox console and PC. We're previewing Project xCloud in 15 countries so gamers can play games with their friends on any device. And we're working hard on the next-generation of console gaming with Xbox Series X—the fastest, most powerful console we've ever built which includes backward compatibility with thousands of Xbox games and all Xbox One accessories. As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we're taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally. Gamers can check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability.

Maybe get a price drop for the one X

Literally in the statement.

You should have included the sentence before it.

So technically, they're stopping production of one of the Xbox One S variants.

forgot that one ever existed, really

I can see how stopping production helps clear stock. I don't see how making headlines out of stopping production help achieve that goal, though. Are consumers expected to go "wow, that thing is no longer made, let me get one"? I see collectors and those in need for a bargain getting one, but overall, making a fuss out of this seems to have the opposite of the desired effect overall.

I got one for free (first Xbox One). Don't know what to do with it really. Maybe just play my old 360 collection

Netflix box :)

Problem is both my TV's are smart TVs with Netflix already in.

I was hoping to find some kind of hack to it that allows Linux or something but nope.

Let me use it for my daughters game setup

I have an ancient Xbox 360 Xenon (the bad red ring of death edition) that just refuses to die. I think it's the last surviving one on earth.
