I know what you are saying but Threadripper and Cascade Lake X are considered consumer chipsets. I also wistfully look at my 990FX Sabretooth as that is wired the way I believe mainstream boards should be wired. There is no reason (latency aside) that they could not easily put a PLX chip on the board to provide more PCIe lanes.

I guess I should have said mainstream, not including HEDT. Back in the old days when quad SLI was a thing, yeah motherboard manufacturers went the extra mile to put that stuff in there. Now, there isn't really a reason to go 4x PCIe x16 slots on a mainstream motherboard, so manufacturers have put the money towards better I/O ports, more features, etc.

The 3 listings above are what I am talking about; the MSI STRx board is $559 the As rock Tachai B550 is $479 after MIB and the MSI X570 is $514. I know that the B550 and X570 could be considered flagship boards but it does not make sense to me from a value proposition. The Strx board has so much more As much as there is not a ton of things you can plug into a PCIe slot there are still plenty of PCIe devices and some of the best value items you can buy are also PCIe based. We can all agree that your PC is indeed your PC made for your wants and needs.

Again, product segmentation plays a role here. Sure, HEDT is for consumers, but it bridges the gap between Mainstream and Server.

These companies generally listen. If there was more than a few one offs asking for more, it would trend that way. Again market segmentation. You don't want to have too much grey area or it will vulture sales from each. The reality is that most users don't need more than a single PCIe slot (especially today since SLI/CFx is fading fast) and two M.2 slots along with 4 SATA ports. Even when you stuff that full on a mainstream chipset, you still have at least one or two more PCIe x1 slots and likely PCH fed full-length slots too...

I don't care to cater the mainstream to the 1% when there is an ecosystem already there with all the bells and whistles.

This thread was a completely FAKE, or a FAKE by Intel. Now we are in May / June 2021 and 400 as well as 500 series chipset for Intel 11th gen moble labtops CHIPSETS DOES NOT SUPPORT PCIE 4.0.
SO FORGET ABOUT SSD AT PCIE 4.0 INSIDE INTEL 11TH GEN LABTOPS.
THEY ARE HIDDIN THIS, THEY SAID PCIE 4.0 (SOMETIMES SAID ON GRAPHICS) AND ON CPU IS OK, BUT IF CHIPSET ONLY SUPORTS PCIE 3.0 THEN THE CPU WILL USE PCIE AT 3.0 SPEEDS
