NVIDIA Might Close the Deal of Arm Acquisition Before Summer Ends

This is incredibly unlikely to happen.

1) Competition. This will never get past competition authorities in the EU. It shouldn't in the US either ... but typically they will do what ever they think is best for 'brand USA'.

2) Because of the profound competition implications, it's very unlikely that a consortium of ARM licensees would not bid much higher than NVIDIA could ever afford for either a controlling or blocking interest in ARM.

I can kinda agree with 1. The EU authorities (or whoever might apply as regulator in this case) would at the very least stall the takeover for a while, if nothing else, but I think they will look into this deal and block it.

Regarding 2, the question is what those licensees think about this deal and if they're willing to put a lot of cash (or something equally interesting for Softbank) on the table to at least take some of ARM's shares away from Nvidia.

Let Nvidia waste their money and effort on this. Arm is british and despite Boris Johnson's ineptitude, even he is not enough of a fool to give up a British company to Jensen.

After that hurdle, Softbank still need to appease their Japanese regulators and then if it's passed it'll be fought by every single one of Nvidia's competitors and existing ARM clients in various international courts.

I can say many ugly things about Nvidia and the Ageia example can be the proof that Nvidia getting ARM is a really bad thing.

On the other hand Nvidia could be just trying to secure their future by getting their hands on a CPU platform that is both successful and wide spread. And in that case the ARM platform could see huge benefits from this acquisition. Of course high hopes where also when Nvidia got Ageia and we all know what happened. But an Nvidia that will let it's arrogance to the side and try to create a real competing platform against the X86 platform, that could be something.

Haha. Johnson and his cronies wouldn't give a shit, and none of them are likely to be remotely informed enough (or bothered to read briefings) even if they did care about stuff like this.

They're not going to block the sale of a UK company to a US one anyway. Would imperil the trade deal they want with the US ... where ultimately the UK will become a dumping ground for dangerous or substandard US crap, which is rightly kept out currently, and healthcare is privatized.

I can't see how this could get past EU regulators however. It has such profound implications for not only the tech industry, but everything that relies on its products.
