Sony has developed a 50 milliwatt "green" prototype battery that runs on sugars. The 1.5 inch (3.9 cm) battery can produce enough juice to run an mp3 player, along with a pair of speakers. The battery casing is made up of vegetable-based plastic and generates energy by breaking down sugar solution with enzymes.

great now i can see the cost of sugar going through the roof. just like the price of corn, beef and milk thanks to ethanol!

how freaking bored do you get, to develop something to run off sugar?

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll find a way to make these explode too.

Just thought of this.... but you could recharge your iPod batteries at any restaurant that had sugar packets at the table.... wouldn't that be cool ;)
I'm sure it's actually some highly regulated mixture, but I can dream right? :D

Haha, maybe that's how Sony came up with this! The engineers were all sitting around the table going, "Hrm... so what could we use to make batteries that can't possibly explode?", then the secretary walks to serve coffee saying, "Sugar?".... and a legend was born   :slap: :respect:

... now what if she had said, "Creamer?" Those crazy engineers probably would have made that work too somehow....

good job by the Sony battery and incendiary device R&d team, a sweetener that doubles as a battery that doubles as an explosive no doubt going of Sony's recent track record with batteries.

...all things you could probably do with less of, Yank. :p

(My apologies if you're not from America.)

huh? yes im american (united states)...but why could i do with less of corn, milk and beef???

actually, it's because sugars are usually created by plants. i don't remember what the whole story was, but any bodily fluid can be converted into a battery. the first version of this is a urinal that would have enough power to squeegee itself clean after 200 "patrons". i guess that they found that the liquid sugars in plants would work better.

on the other hand, if this new marvel can be made explosive by sony it will probably be the most explosive battery ever, what's going to happen when we send those laptops to the third-world kids?

Now, if they can make laptop batteries the same, all my fears will be allayed.

Don't suger burn ? :P.. Sounds good though

Nope, just melts (atleast with lighter temperatures), but..

If you ever cut your self, find a sugar cube and get some blood on to that. Now go light that sucker up! Burns nicely on blue flame (if I remember correctly), but melting sugar is extremely hot, so be carefull not to burn your self.

Also this is not to make you cut yourself on purpose just to test it out xD Cigar ashes do supposedly the same thing, but haven't tested it out my self.

Oh noes, farmers in the midwest are finally getting competitive prices. Perhaps two other good things will come out of it: people will get over this stupid obsession for organic foods (which is oxymoronic by definition, and a sign people have too much money to spend), and by increasing the production of ethanol, allowing for economies of scale to do it's thing, decrease its cost and increase it's usage and/or get you to stop driving you car and buy a bike.

thus prooving sony has too much time on there hands. probably all the left over free time they have from not working on making the ps3 better..or maybe a ps4...idk

What are you talking about? The PS3 gets better with every firmware update.

We all now what sony is like at making batteries..........

KA.....BOOOOOOOM!!! rofl
