AMD in a letter to its retail partners issued guidelines to prevent scalping of the kind that affected the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series "Ampere" launch. The letter, leaked to the web by RedGamingTech, calls for measures such as real-time bot detection, complex CAPTCHA implementations (such as math, pictures, etc), a queue-based reservation system; manual processing of online orders, minimizing B2B re-selling to ensure sales to private individuals (end-users), and dynamic inventory. The Ryzen 5000 "Zen 3" series desktop processors will start being available from November 5, while AMD will detail Radeon RX 6000 RDNA2 availability in its October 28 public presentation dedicated to the graphics card series.

I think this means that availability will be low at launch. Or we're being led to make that inference with a "leak"...

No, it means AMD wants cards in the hands of customers instead of scalpers.

I don't get how you see any inclination of stock from this.

AMD is trying not to go NVidia's failure and learn from it.

I like what currys did for nvidia 3xxx cards, put ÂŁ2k on the price, when you order you get emailed a code to put in at checkout that takes ÂŁ2k off the price. pretty good way to foil bots as they would scan the price and not order if the price was ÂŁ2k+price of card.

Just try to read between the pr bullshit lines.
A company does not make such a statement, unless it knows, what they wont be able to supply enough goods.

More likely they saw the Nvidia shitstorm, and learnt from that.
It's called good customer relations.

Maybe there is no "between the lines". It is a huge chance for AMD to launch the cards and get availability. They didn't rush the product as NV did so maybe you are not correct. Securing the products availability and put down scalpers is a good thing for the company and consumer satisfaction. I'm sure AMD is aware of that.

Wonders? Why is it so hard for you to understand that companies don't want to lose the upper hand when they have it. NV release earlier to acquire attention taking off the AMD launch and show off the product just before AMD's launch with failed supply. Now AMD is hitting it back with release with meaningful supply protecting the product from scalps and those alike.
Is it a wonder or is it just basic marketing and assurance of a place in the market and product sales?

I think they are primarily just trying to avoid the scalper fiasco Nvidia's launch just went through. There is nothing more to read into this at this point. Even if supply was great scalpers could really have a negative impact on pricing if they turned a blind eye to it.

AMD is just covering their butts, knowing in advance supply will be insufficient. Much like nVidia knew it, except they tried to do PR damage control in midst of poop-storm. While AMD can just point to those guidelines and say "See, we provided appropriate guidelines ahead of time, seems like retailers didn't comply, blame them, not us"

Smart of AMD to have learnt from that.

Benchmark Scores irrelevant for me
no matter how many ten/hundred of thousand cards they'll have available at launch scalpers can disrupt the chain; for ex. 1000 scalpers worldwide and each buy 10 cards =10000 cards, so up to 9000 honest buyer won't get anything... scalping should be banned & prosecuted ...

AMD is slowly rising to the top of the pile. It'll be years before they're king of the hill and calling the shots, but I hope they still pull these good-guy, 'underdog' moves when they dominate the market.

I'm sick of Intel/Nvidia's BS over the last three decades, the PC industry has had so much anti-competitive, anti-consumer, ethically and legally dubious behavior from Intel/Nvidia that it'll just be a breath of fresh air to have a company on top that doesn't treat its customers like dirt.

That is not true. This GPU has been in development for Years and when they made the current run of PS5 and XBox1X GPUs these were also in the production run. We honestly have no idea how many of these chips AMD has produced but if they have that many variants lanuching, it says to me that supply shortage is not the reason but moral stewardship.

LOL if anyone thinks scalpers won't do the exact same thing here then they are sorely mistaken.

Also whoever at AMD thought that by leaking this they would avoid an Nvidia launch scenario then they are deeply mistaken, because they basically just announced the obstacle course, and there are probably half a dozen discord servers that are working on getting bots to jump thru those hoops.

The main issue with launches is COVID screwing with production quantities and limiting the methods sales orders can come in, this brought a unique edge for scalpers that usually work with limited edition clothing (sneakers etc) to bring their "expertise" to the consumer electronics arena.

This isn't on Nvidia, nor will it be on AMD when their own launch is also screwed up by scalper bots either.

Oh god here we go again with morals/ethics.... typical leftist thinking. That piece of statement has no legal hold, they have no right to tell companies, buy my products and sell it like this....it is for intent and purposes to wash your eyes only. Fools fall for it.

Just because we live in a World that is rife with bigotry, xenophobia and acrimony does not mean that a Company could not be genuine in their messaging. If you know for a fact that this is a PR job show me. BTW what is wrong with morals and ethics.

It's not the leak that is supposed to keep scalpers from scalping cards, but this proves that AMD has informed retailers to take necessary precautions so the scalping will not happen on an enormous scale and disrupt the sales.
Covid has nothing to do with this and if it has it is a small margin. So small that it doesn't matter. If you look at the charts for transit and logistics you would know. Trucks for example has gone down in 2020 1.1% in comparison to 2019 so it's like nothing.
It is on AMD and NVidia since they are selling these cards (NV FE edition cards) on their own webpage. AMD will sell these new cards on its webpage as well. All everyone needs to do is to prepare for that scalping since these people will try it. You need to put in a system that will minimize these actions.

You know it is a PR job, when they release a public statement that has no legal standing in any form or shape. it is washing over your eyes. if you are so worried about those issues, you take full control, and supply your own products via yourself.
