AMD Ryzen 5000 Processors Allegedly Work With 300 Series Motherboards

I don't get people's obsession with ridiculously oversized power delivery systems in PC hardware. It is purely marketing driven, both AMD and Intel set clear power delivery requirements for their sockets that board manufacturers have to meet to be able to certify the board is compatible. Unless you are planing to do big OC's, you can comfortably rely on an AM4 board to run any compatible CPU from a power handling perspective. The FX debacle came about because AMD released a processor that sat far outside the AM3+ power spec (it used 220W TDP) which meant only certain boards could support.

I like that every time a new AM4 processor is released the same "the A320 chipset won't work with the new processor because it's old/stinks/it's cheap" debacle! :)
If the 300 series chipset won't get an update it's purely for marketing reasons, full stop.

In the same thread on chiphell one poster mentioned that OP has already "went through" a 5600X and a 4750G(ouch). it also doesn't make sense for AMD to support such old platforms and there wasn't great amount of boards with good VRMs for 3xx anyways. if you want to mod bios yourself you probably already have idea of the risk associated and possibly have a quality x370 board.
also, people who doesn't have 300 series boards nor 5000 series CPUs, probably put the pitchfork down? I doubt if anyone were to act as AMD CEO, would do the work of supporting people still on 300 series boards, who can buy a 3000 series CPU for a good price and with official support...

There's a difference between won't work and not being supported. AMD never said 5000 series won't work with a 300 series board but will not get support.

I wonder if my motherboard could get one of those bios updates, would be neat to not have to give up on this mobo that cost me 300$ 3 years ago

OK why should i buy AMD then? if i`m an consumer.

At the moment no Zen3 is on Stock, only Zen2 and they are much more expensive than a similar Intel System

H410, 10400F, 16GB RAM = 240 Euro (10600KF, cheapest Z Board, 16GB RAM = 340 Euro)
B550, 3600, 16GB RAM = 320 Euro
:kookoo:

Edit:
But if it would be on Stock
B550, 5600X, 16GB RAM = 430 Euro for 6 cores this is 90 Euro (106$) expensive than my theoretical System with 10600KF and Z Board

AMD have good CPU on high Corecount for a good value, but in the Midclass there is no argument for them:)

I would get a 5600x over a 3700x in a heartbeat if I knew it would work...I am waiting for prices to drop and maybe some stable bootleg BIOS for my board before I make a decision...

Hi Seth. My post is regarding that it makes no sense for AMD to put effort into 4 year old chipset, when they are already tuning 400 series chipsets for 5000 series CPU. Nothing to do with the price as such.
Why buy AMD? Well the argument would be that the 400 series board still receives support for the 5000 series CPU which is extremely good value for money if you get a decent B450 board.
It makes sense that the H410 + 10400F is cheaper. After all you are simply paying for an inferior combo. That and you don't have to worry about/can't reach high memory clocks...
I were also unable to find the combo that you specified (the 340 euro 10600KF kit) at the price you specified, which is probably to do with where I live (Australia).

If you can find the 10600KF kit for that money I'd argue that is very good value. Down here the 3600 is priced just below 10600KF making it a nonsensical purchase.
the cheapest Z490 boards are also extremely bare-bone. the 4 cheapest Z490 here are all made by Asrock, for reference in this video they do not even hit 10600KF's base frequency.

*It also makes sense that Zen3 CPU's are more expensive. They are straight up better and 10600KF is not even competing at same level v. the 5600X

one last thing is, if i were to purchase the intel combo i'd also NEED to purchase my own cooler to hit the advertised turbo speeds. I would also want to get good quality memory with high frequency and low latancy, not a must, but Comet lake scales phenomenally with it.

These are just my opinion, I think the two combo's you mentioned, the 3600 and the 10600KF, I would have to spend just a little bit more money on a non-Asrock Z490, buy a decent heatsink or AIO, which makes the deal making sense - you pay more for this than the 3600 for (somewhat) better performance.
They are all selling the same shit, you get what you paid for, so I find this "AMD has to be cheaper" thinking strange and still it makes perfect sense to make any purchase, and that AMD and Intel have the same argument in mid-range especially.

OK why should i buy AMD then? if i`m an consumer.

The cheapest here in the EU are Gigabyte and MSI.

10600KF 203 Euro
Gigabyte Z490M 105 euro or MSI Z490A-Pro 113 euro
16GB DDR4 47 Euro

ok its 355 Euro not 340

Germany current (in stock) prices
GigaByte B550M Aorus Elite 97 EUR
Ryzen 5 3600 is 190 EUR

That ryzen went for under 150EUR before people realised it will be a while until we can get our hands on 5600x and that msrp the price is 100EUR more...

A good B550 Mobo could be had for 80eur during bf. I have seen zero good intel deals.

I don't like where AMD is going with price hikes and dropping support for older boards but I still dislike intel even more.
