MSI Intros GeForce 8600GT with Dual BIOS

MSI unveiled yesterday its latest GeForce 8600GT graphics card equipped with dual BIOS, or as MSI calls it vBIOS. The latest MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo, has two separate BIOS chips on-board which carry two dedicated GPU/Shader/Memory clock settings. Users only have to press a hardware button on the back of the card, and then the new (higher) clock setting can be applied without re-flashing the vBIOS chip. Also, these two vBIOS chips can be useful if the card is preflashed with wrong BIOS version. Depending on the mode you choose (normal or turbo) the video card clocks at 540/580MHz core, 1450/1508MHz shader and 1400/1600MHz memory clocks respectively. The MSI GeForce 8600GT Twin Turbo features 256MB DDR3 128-bit memory and PCI-e interface.

MSI makes nice card, I have the 8600GTS card,, just wish they would have done it to the GTS card before the GT.

I had an Abit X800 that did the same thing, it's a really nice feature that I would like to see more often.

It was nice, not because I could switch between faster and slower clockspeeds, but because I could play with various BIOS without fear of destroying my card.

I Was reading this and thinking what could a dual bios provide...then I read further. Very nice and a pretty cool trick. I wander, could it be clocked higher.

I like this, innovative idea and especialy since it is MSI but unfortunately, the price point of this card will make it a non factor versus it's already released HD2600XT GDDR4 Diamond OC Edition which tops out at less than $120 after MIR. Anybody elses GTS would even have a hard time competing against the new Diamond OC edition card performance wise and thats not to mention that their new HD2600XT GDDR4 Diamond OC Edition is actualy less expensive to everyone elses 8600GTS and half the GT's as well! I was soooo close to buying a new 8600GTS until newegg dropped the prices on the GDDR4 HD's and offered a MIR for the MSI model.

I give props to MSI for offering this though!
