To be fair to Apple, as much as some people may prefer Windows over OSX, few would argue that the appearance of the iMac range is among the sleekest and most attractive of computer designs available. However, Sony has now launched its new VAIO LT all-in-one PC which could well become a thorn in Apple's side. The VAIO LT features a 22" 'floating glass' display, a 1.3 MP integrated webcam, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and an 802.11n wireless adaptor. Not only will it act as a computer, but it can also be used as a high definition TV, and the VAIO LT HD model also boasts a Blu-ray drive and Windows Vista Ultimate (the standard model uses Home Premium). The new VAIO LT should become available during October, but with the basic model costing $1,900 and the premium model costing $2,900, Sony's prices are significantly above those of the iMac, which starts at just $1,199 for the 20" model.

XD higher than the mac's price....

A nice idea, but since it is Sony it is actually more overpriced than Apple's crap...

wow, thats unbelievable disgusting, and since it's sony! i wouldn't buy it if my life depended on it!

lol - nice try, sony.

typical $ony marketing but no doubt this is being billed as a prestige item but for style it doesn't beat a Mac. considering Sony tout the ps3 being more powerful than a current pc why haven't adapted this to feature ps3 internals?

Maybe they should re-enter the LCD market. At least people were buying their LCD's.

I didnt think anyone could charge more than apple for pcs....

apparently I was wrong...nice idea, way overpriced...and to think, you can get a 20" imac, and boot up windows on it...

ewww

that thing is disgusting, get it out of my face!!!:cry::shadedshu

Heh, although I wouldn't buy one.... I'm sure they will sell quite a few of them.

Sony is a well known name and because of that it doesn't matter if something they make is worth the money high end or half worth anything.

I deal with sales of electronics a lot... I have customers I can get to buy a $6000 plasma tv, but they want a sony theater system just because they know that name...

It will sell, it does look pretty sharp, priced ya its over priced.

C'mon guys admit it, Sony is the greatest company in the history of the universe, you all secretly love Sony and if you could mate with a Sony you would gladly have its babies.

garbage just like there CD's with a rootkit installer..Sony is way worse than MAC no matter what OS;)

I'll admit sony does some cool stuff, like their 3 layer tv's, those just look really cool gives a true 3d image, weather or not its 3d enough, it adds an effect thats quite nice...

They also have always made really nice TV's...

I don't care for their audio equipment or computers. But from what I have seen their computers are not that bad for in store pre-fabs, overpriced but not bad.

It doesn't look that great n e ways

precisely, plus it's ugly...omfg

In three seperate posts within this thread alone, you've managed to fully describe your avatar and sig to a tee! Nice job! ;)

Getting back to the topic, I honestly don't care if Sony made this or not, it's way over priced to be competitive. Sony's name may indeed carry this item for a little bit but in the long run, it will ultimately fail because of it's price.

No it wont..... Price will come down on it, or they will add features to it for a larger market and the price will stay near the same....

Sony's marketing and design team is FAR from stupid, they don't really ever release a product that simply fails.

I realize companies do that sort of thing... I'm not as stupid as you think I may be...

Take the PS3 for example, prices have come down and features have been added but it's sales are still hurting. The only reason it hasn't folded altoghether is because it has Sony's interest and financial backing atm. This PC won't sell as long as Apple remains competitive and sees this as a direct threat. I don't care what Sony does to it whether it be price cuts and/or added features, it isn't going to outsell even a lowly iMac and that will spell it's doom. When you consider the small market share that iMac's currently have and if this PC can not compete in that market, kiss it's arse goodbye!

Then again, I could be completely waaay off base here and Sony may just pull this thing off but IMHO, I just do not see it happening.

Well I don't think you are stupid by any means...
***********
But as for Sony rivaling with Apple... It's not happening. They are simply offering something that some people would like to own.

Trust me if your looking for a Mac your buying a Mac period... They really don't compete with each other very much at all... It's one or the other and thats pretty much about it...

Not too many people on this planet that go to buy a new truck and actually think about it between a new Ford and a new Chevy... It's generally one or the other.

I do. But, we are talking about Mac users here... I understand your point tho, most people don't like being a "smart consumer." They kinda just go w/ whatever they can get THEN. It aggravates me when people don't think about their investments and such. O well, that's pretty off topic anyways lol

Ain't that the truth! Brand loyalty does play a huge factor.

There is that, but when you are talking about a Mac and a Pc, you might as well literally be in two totally different worlds as far as most consumers are concerned.

Almost as if one is a "computer" and the other is a "pc or mac" and they want a "computer".

The PS2 was the last good thing SONY ever did. The rest is shit.

But ohh the nights playing GTA on the PS2 and drinking beers.

Apart from the beers I know exactly what you mean.

Me and a friend used to have such a laugh playing San Andreas.
