NVIDIA today released the latest version of its GeForce Game Ready software. Version 460.89 WHQL comes with day-one support for the latest version of Quake II RTX (v1.4.0), which leverages Vulkan RT API. This update enables "any GPU with Vulkan RT support" to play the game with full path-traced glory. The drivers pack the full, finalized Vulkan RT API support, and the latest CUDA 11.2 compute API. Interestingly, the Release Notes document of the drivers do not mention any new fixed issues, but additions to the Known Issues list. Grab the driver from the link below.

The change-log follows.

Game Ready for Quake II RTX with Vulkan Ray Tracing
Our latest Game Ready Driver provides support for the Quake II RTX v1.4.0 update which enables support for the new Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions. Now, any GPU with support for Vulkan Ray Tracing can experience Quake II RTX in all its path-traced glory.

New Features and Other Changes
  • Supports finalized Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions
  • Supports CUDA 11.2
Known Issues
Windows 10

Windows 10 Issues
  • [Nicehash, other mining software]: Mining software does not recognize the NVIDIA GPU. [3200758]
  • [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti]: The desktop screen may flicker. [3200599]
  • [Steam VR game]: Stuttering and lagging occur upon launching a game. [3152190]
  • [HDR]: With HDR enabled, black levels are incorrect. [200682795]
  • [G-SYNC][NVIDIA Ampere GPU architecture]: GPU power consumption may increase in idle mode on systems using certain higher refresh-rate G-SYNC monitors. [200667566]
  • [YouTube]: Video playback stutters while scrolling down the YouTube page. [3129705]
  • [Notebook]: Some Pascal-based notebooks w/ high refresh rate displays may randomly drop to 60Hz during gameplay. [3009452]
  • [G-Sync][Vulkan Apps]: Performance drop occurs when using G-SYNC and switching from full-screen mode to windowed mode using the in-game settings. [200681477] To workaround, either launch the game in windowed mode directly or disable G-SYNC.
  • [GeForce RTX 3070][Clone Mode]: When the resolution is set to 2560x1440 @ 144Hz, the performance state is stuck at maximum performance.[200678414]
  • [NVIDIA Turing or later][Windows Movies and TV Player]: When playing a 4k video in fullscreen mode on a 2560x1440 HDR monitor, the video extends beyond the edge of the screen. [3186830]

Wow! This is enough to make most people not want to update...

This is a big plus... I think I'm going to wait until NVidia has the "known issues" sorted out.

And yet I've never experienced any of those issues, even the YouTube-related one in Microsoft Edge (Chromium).

The drivers are less than a day old. Really, never?
The last couple of driver versions have had the same laundry list of issues as well.

NVIDIA Releases GeForce 460.79 Game Ready Drivers with Cyberpunk 2077 Optimization | TechPowerUp

Damn near the same list of issues, hell... I'd say that the list of issues with the 460.79 drivers is worse than the list of issues for 460.89 yet I've seen none of those issues and I loaded them on the day they were released.

If you're going to wait until all the issues are solved, you're going to be waiting a long time. It seems that for every fix that nVidia adds, they add new bugs. I've come to sort of expect that.

I had to back-track myself to an older version due to the flickering. It would do so a few times every minute.

Haven't been bugged with any SteamVR issues so far with my 3090 since I got it. Hmm, probably the problem is limited to specific VR HMD.

Wait, what?!

This is definitely new. And I have a 1080 Ti, a working Cyberpunk experience and low risk tolerance.

Looks like I'm staying with 460.79 until at least February '21.

those issues were present in previous drivers, they're just known about now

Nvidia please drop the "Game Ready" moniker and just call them "The best we can do for now" Drivers.

Both this driver and the previous still don't work with my Displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter...

Are you using older drivers then?

Yep, the last hotfix it worked on: 456.71

So far I'm not missing much, but Vulkan Ray Tracing might be nice...

Yeah, I've been waiting for that one. Kinda surprised it took this long but then again, RTRT is a complex thing and it's possible they wanted to get it right the first go.

I'm just on a 4k TV via HDMI @60Hz so I don't get the flickering with my 1080Ti, I think they stated it was possibly high refresh rates and DisplayPort setups that were having the issue. I also don't get the Youtube stutters with Firefox.

I still get quite a bit of colour flashing and flicker on my 1080ti. It is slightly improved compared to the previous version, but unusable none the less, so I have to downgrade to 457.51 again.
When the screen is set to 90Hz and below there is almost no flicker, but at 120Hz it's actually unusable, I get red and green flashes every few seconds.

There is an option to change Vulcan and the other option for RT. Which is the better one?

That's a feature, not a bug!

Jawa logic at it's finest.

That Q2 is one of the few games that actually look like using RT instead of slapping a few effects on standard rendering method (WD:Legion, even CP2077).

I'm in the same boat, thought my monitor was going out. Not sure how a glitch like this makes its way into a 5 year old card. Rolled-back as well.
