NVIDIA is reportedly preparing a new GeForce RTX 30-series SKU positioned around the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3070, as the company looks to fine-tune its lineup against the Radeon RX 6700 series. Called the GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra, the SKU is reportedly carved out from the same 8 nm "GA104" silicon as the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070; but with a different core-configuration, and 12 GB of GDDR6 memory. At this point, it is not known if the memory bus width is narrowed to 192-bit, or if the same 256-bit wide memory bus is used (with mixed memory chip density). WCCFTech posted a picture of the first custom-design RTX 3060 Ultra card, an ASUS TUF Gaming product, which it reports to be faster than the RTX 3060 Ti. The publication also reports the card's MSRP pricing to be USD $449.

Does this even matter if there won't be any stock?
Apart from 3090's, there's almost no stock left, even here.

50 dolah cheaper than 3070, interesting. Naming in other hand... They should have called it "mega". Hehe, but I doubt that people will chose this over 3070.

The last ultra I remember was the 8800 Ultra, which was an overclocked version of the flagship at the time. They use it on a supposedly mid range card?

Eventually there will be, for God's sake! Not everyone is rushing into these, they will be nvidias line-up for next few years. :)
Reading about mixed memory densities made me wonder if any other GPU of the past was launched with such memory, hmmm...

so my friend JUST ordered a 3060ti on my recommendation.... kinda feel I need to tell them to cancel now....

Nvidia is reportedly doing a lot it seems lately.

Rumor mill BS. There's not even any knowledge on what the GPU can do. 192 or 256 bit is kinda important, but luckily there's a shader count or die estimation..oh wait

I had an FX 5200 Ultra back in the day. It's not reserved for high end only... but it should be the highest of that particular model.

When 3060 has more memory than 3070 and 3080...

Oohhh I see

It seems like a quick steering effect after knowing RX 6700 series will possibly carry 12GB of video memory over 192BIT controllers.
Assuming this is a reasonable response

What the hell?!

Earlier, the 3080Ti to bridge the 10% gap between the 3080 and 3090, and now a 3060 Ultra to bridge the 10% gap between 3060 Ti and 3070?

When 3060 has more memory than 3070 and 3080...
What with the 1060 6GB it's nothing new.

Don't if they're not going to go above 1440p. This would be a flat launch I'm guessing.

So now NVIDIA has Ti, Super and Ultra on top of the "vanilla" models. Nice, not confusing at all. /s

They seem a bit lost lately.

It would be nice if people weren't so thick and just left Nvidia to it. Don't buy their cards, they'll soon get the message.

It's not so easy to choose. My bet is 3840 Cuda cores for RTX 3060 and then 3060Ti will be ~25% faster. But the question si how long is he planning to keep It. If he is planning to have It for more than 2 years, then I wonder If It's not safer to buy this card with more Vram.

edit: 8GB could be a problem later, but 3060ti is still a lot faster, so It's better to keep It.

VRAM use increases with resolution and AA.
If the person is not going to use a very high resolution(e.g. >=4K) then there is no point getting lots of RAM.
What might happen in the future when 4K gaming becomes more mainstream is that he may end up leapfrogging 12GB altogether and get a 16GB card, like I did - my 970 was 4GB and it's starting to get constrained at 1080p in newer games so I jumped directly to an 8GB 3060Ti which should set me up for a long time for 1080p and 1440p.

Id say bring back the LE :D
RTX 3060 LE

Hold on, let me get my turkey to cook on it...
Ah well, at 500C even that'll be burnt to a crisp.

GB doesnt mean that much. Memory speed matters.
memory and GPU both.
The market is filled with paltry 710 and 1030 GPUs with 2 and 4GB of memory.
We all know the poor cards won't be able to use a quarter of it.

this will be ~$700 at my local market

Capacity doesn't mean much unless You fill it up to the brim - then things get ugly. Modern games can already take up to 10-11GB of VRAM and since I buy a GPU to last at least a few years, I wish 3080 had >15GB on board to cover that time.
