New Intel DG2 HPG GPU Surface, Could Power a Family of Products

It appears that Intel's DG2 refers to a number of HPG (High Performance Graphics) products within the same family, with rumors surfacing around a possible total of six different graphics products based on the company's latest high performance graphics architecture - and its debut on the high performance discrete market. It's been confirmed that Intel's DG2 products will not be manufactured in-house, via Intel's 10 nm SuperFin technology, but with recourse to foundry partner TSMC's 6 nm fabrication technology.

It seems that DG2 is currently slated for launch based on three different chip configurations: the first is the DG2 512EU, which will power the highest-performance, 4096 shading unit, 8 GB / 16 GB GDDR6 and 192-bit bus graphics card. Another chip is the DG12 384EU, estimated to come in at ~190 mm², available in three different shading unit configurations: 3072 shading units, with an accompanying 6/12 GB of GDDR6 memory and 192-bit bus; 2048 shading units, which reduces allotted memory to 4/8 GB configurations and a 128-bit memory bus; and finally, the further cut-down 1536 shading unit configuration, with a maximum of 4 GB of GDDR6 memory over the same 128-bit bus. The final (current) chip in the DG2 family is the DG2 128EU, with both 128EU and 96EU configurations (1024 and 768 shading units, respectively) carrying 4 GB VRAM over a pretty tight 64-bit bus. We'll see if these leaks actually materialize into final Intel products, and if these design choices are the possible best, considering Intel's technology, so as to assail the two-player party that is the discrete, high performance graphics market.

clearly mr Koduri has given AMD secrets to Intel for they GPU's!
 
Their discrete gaming GPU is running at least a year late, by now. Hope it's worth the wait and we get, at the very least, a decent midrange card. TSMC manufacturing is another sore spot, TSMC can't begin to service their various customers.
 
Well, they better have very good driver support and optimizations, it's fine releasing a fast card and all, but one has to offer great support for games after the product has been sold. AMD made the mistake of dropping the ball at one time, and my complaints were ignored and those of many others, I never bought from them again. It would seem AMD has started to listen, but I don't know, anyways, good luck Intel, we need more competition.

In my experience AMD's drivers have been great and Nvidia's kinda crappy, 7900GTO, 8800GTS(G92) - HD6950, RX480

Though I will say I dont like the interface of AMD since the step away form Catalyst to Radeon Software, its too hard to find basic stuff and there not enough options, like screen calibration is pretty bad and it having to load every game from the harddrive instead of letting me just choose what game I want to create some profile for....

but other then that its been great, though i dont deny the problems around the RX5700 launch.

I think this is going to be a problem with Intel's GPU. Driver and game optimization is not something you can build up with a few generations of making GPU. This being new is going to have an uphill task of getting their drivers to work well in games. Their old iGPU driver will not cut it anymore.
 
Interesting flagship with 4096CU and 16GB VRAM but via 192 bit bus. Why not 384 bit bus?
PS. In other websites and in twits bus is 256 bit for flagship DG2?

So far we've not seen a single thing of what Xe should do for gaming or consumer graphics.

So far its all could, will and going to.

I'll believe it when I see it.
 
If intel uses their own fabs for this, there could be large quantities on the shelves at least.

I assumed typo and they meant 256-bit bus as all the other numbers checked out.
 
I just hope it's a spiritual successor to the gtx 1060, priced similarly too

call it something like Xe 512, but then when the next generation launches how do u name a chip with the same EUs? maybe 1st gen Xe 512
 
so far raja just want some slides and attention, it's years he has not made any products all just paper launch and seems to me raja just got kicked out of amd not like he drop out or anything. On the other hands intel is a train wreck on the road to bankruptcy in the matter of time. After see some intel xe benchmark from german clearly it couldn't deliver 3 fps at most game. They keep lying about higher specs day bt day do far and no real world perfomance yet may be in 10 more year it will by apply or samsung at that point someone else already buy intel and kick raja out again

Would you be so kind of provide sources corroborating that claim? Even Intel's iGPUs have been getting better over the years and Intel has spent quite a bit of effort in improving their Linux drivers to the point where there are actually some pretty big gains and a lot of the code between Linux and Windows is now shared. I'm not expecting Intel to blow AMD or nVidia out of the water, but I'm sure as hell not going to complain about a 3rd option for GPUs.

looking not to common 5u gpu servers goings in my mind te question of multigpu working.. seen 10 pci-e x16 config and only 2 cpu boards from supermicro..
4 x 8k monitors / projectors ultra cinema can be posible? with windows 10? know people with some old originals that can be remastered to ultra quality. if configuration works..

Boinc seems another funny experiment if openclient libraries works well at last.

pd: still using a old xeon phy 7120 board... thinking on cinema like labyrint from david bowie and other originalls to remaster withwow quadratic pixelation probles.. like BN old movies and of couse withwow blur's effects
