AMD Navi 23 Silicon Detailed, Higher Transistor Count than RX 5700 XT

AMD's third smallest silicon based on the RDNA2 graphics architecture, the Navi 23, has more transistors than its largest GPU based on RDNA, the Navi 10. This according to a leak detailing key physical specs of the silicon. The Navi 23 silicon will feature in the desktop Radeon RX 6600 series, mobile Radeon RX 6600M series, and the Radeon Pro W6600. The Navi 23 silicon has a transistor count of 11.06 billion, compared to 10.3 billion on the Navi 10 silicon that powers the Radeon RX 5700 XT, and has a die size of approximately 237 mm², compared to 251 mm² of the older chip.

Built on the same 7 nm silicon fabrication node as the other RDNA2 chips, Navi 23 physically features 32 compute units, working out to 2,048 stream processors. Other specs include 128 TMUs, and possibly 32 ROPs. The RDNA2 compute unit features Ray Accelerators, so the chip has 32 of them. The memory sub-system is interesting. The memory bus width is 128-bit, addressing GDDR6 memory, but this interface is cushioned by 32 MB of on-die Infinity Cache memory. This cache could be contributing significantly to the chip's overall transistor count. The chip features PCI-Express 4.0 host interface, although there's no clarity on whether this is PCI-Express 4.0 x8 or x16.

That's actually less shaders, TMUs and ROPs than 5600XT. Much higher clocks tho.
Judging by the bus width it'll probably have 8GB of Vram.
I would likely be on the lookout for this card if the current market situation isn't so bleak.
 
In a sane market, this would be the sub-$300 that everyone's been waiting for, to replace all of those GTX 1060 and Polaris cards people have been unable to upgrade from for the last 18 months.

I am betting these 'retail' at $700 with an laughably-irrelevant MSRP of $349 or something like that....

Yeah I would be completely fine with this performance level since thats all I'm looking for/need, IF it was priced reasonably but good luck with that. :laugh: 'I would be also fine with a RTX 3060 but thats even worse priced'

Pretty much ditched the idea of a GPU upgrade this year, if nothing else I will just gift myself a new phone instead at the end of the year or some other hardware.

If 6600 will be powerful than 5700x, that is great. But price will be silly in a bad way.

Oh well, if I have waited for 1 year to get cpu and gpu. I'll be able to wait 0.5 or 1 year more for next gen cpu and gpu. Haha.

I was told layers would be the thing that will glue MCM GPU together.
This has potential to trounce the competitor CPU way.

This will help though simply because of the volume AMD will be able to produce per wafer, its still a supply and demand issue after all. If Nvidia would release their 3050 GPU based on a similar die that would help even more but they seem content to just kick everyone in the nuts/vag and take their lunch money.
 
The extra transistors for ray tracing, infinity cache, etc. etc. add to the cost

In all honesty for the games I play and the amount I play I wish they would have more market segmentation in this case.

Give me a card with 1700-2500 ish shaders on RDNA2 with econo GDDR5, no ray tracing no infinity cache with an econo price, heck even 14nm fine.

thing is FPS would probably be so close to card with the extra features it might undercut it.

if the 5700/5700xt was 350/400$ and this has more transistors and current market I would assume even msrp will be over $400

Still waiting for an $250 RX480 replacement……..

have reached that point now too, I was really looking forward to upgrading this year, I guess I'll just wait a little longer.

Just as we two there are many more who are in the same boat. I just hope to get CPU at msrp and GPU at msrp. 3080 ti msrp is a joke, but we can't do anything about it. People still gonna buy it.
 
In which country can't you get CPUs at MSRP?
Just checked. R5 5600x can be obtained for 300e which is msrp :). 5950x is 50e over msrp, but that still is ok i'll say. So I'm good. Waiting for gpu. :D
