Even with this, it will still take months for the market to recover. This will definitely not be any help to the gpu market in the short run. If any relief, it will take months to get to a point where it will have any real impact.

Considering that there is no alternative to the 2060 on an RTX 30 level (no, the 3060 isn't one, as it is more expensive), it's kind of a sad, but obvious attempt at increasing profit margins per units sold. The lower mid-range is going to be even more deserted than it is now, but nvidia doesn't care because everything sells nowadays.
This is a common sense change and not Nvidia's greed. The 2xxx series cards will all be discontinued soon and there is no reason to make products with low margins rather than products with higher margins when all of them will sell. Of course they want to increase their profit margins, companies and people alike want to improve their margins.

I agree that it sucks there are no more "mid-range" cards like we saw with the 1060/580, but that is not the fault of Nvidia or AMD, that is because of the crypto market.

My advice is if you want a mid-range gaming system, go get a new console. It's cheaper and the quality is better in many scenarios. Or wait out the crypto craze just like 2018. Although it seems like this run on crypto has more legs and will take longer.

I know. If I owned a company like nvidia, I'd do the same. It's still sad, though.

As someone who builds computers as a hobby, and uses them for things other than gaming, I'll never ever buy a console. Hopefully, the mining craze will end soon. Hopefully...

I mean the 2060 was never that attractive to miners.
The 2060 is fantastically efficient and absolutely kills altcoin mining. Current calculations would put a 6 x 2060 rig mining Ravencoin at a 150 day ROI if you could get them @ MSRP. The fact you cant get them at MSRP is proof they are profitable.

Well, unfortunately, I see Bitcoin has gained about 12% this last day, however, the Wyckoff Distribution chart predicts this rise, before the ultimate rug pull. Time will tell.

Its all about the $$$$.

The end game of capitalism, kind of like when I buy a pie from the supermarket it has a teaspoon worth of meat in it now days after years of cost cuts for profit margins.

What they are doing makes no sense. 12nm is free capacity not being used, juste release a 256 bit 16GB 2080Ti at $699 and you get a 3070 replacement. and everything else can pretty much be gobbled by the miners, hope they choke on it.

I don't think it has so much to do with the process node, but the other components, like VRM modules, VRAM, MosFets, more space for new cards in containers, etc.

I wont be buying a console either. But that is the choice that a lot of pc gamers are having to consider.

Nah, never, I like playing my games on ultra/high FPS, tweaking, modding, overclocking etc. Consoles won't do that for me. Besides, I am no mood for "subscription services"

So the RTX 2060 is basically getting phased out sooner, but that's hardly shocking given the events of things right now in terms of production component shortage headaches.

yeah cause Elon Musk said since bitcoin miners are using green energy now he is ok with accepting bitcoin at tesla again... he is such a tool... anyone who thinks they can calculate where the vast majority of energy comes from for bitcoin mining is highly overestimating their abilities. and even a little bit shouldn't be allowed imo. he is a troll. and any green benefits tesla and solar have gained due to Elon are not eradicated due to his decision to continually support crypto. its sad. it really is. we were so close to changing the world for the better, none of it matters anymore. climate change is going to cause mass famine in the billions within our life times.

im honestly surprised they were still making the 2060... seems dumb imo. when your new product sells like hotcakes.

Well that is why we need to have a GPU socket. I would take a 2080 right now, if I can just buy it separately, and not be tied to production lines of PCBs and cooling.

EVGA's queue notification service means you can get hold of their cards at far more reasonable prices with a little patience.

The worst part is that there are RTX 3xxx cards in stores (at least here in EU), but with prices so ridiculous that nobody even thinks about buying them. Polish prices are around 3xMSRP.

Where I am in New Zealand, the pricing is Completely F*cked also. At one point a 3080 gaming x trio was NZ$3200, they're down to NZ$2899 now. When I bought Mine at launch it was NZ$1400 (These are prices including 15% GST)

What's a joke about the shuffle is that 90% of the GPUs they sell are bundled with something else you don't want nor need. You can't return the unwanted item alone, either.... your stuck with it.

Then when you look away the items listed in the shuffle:

You see a 3070 selling for maybe $600, but you also get to pay for a monitor that runs you another $600. So you pay $1200 for the bundle.

Or maybe the GPU is paired with a $200 MB.

Or maybe the GPU is paired with a $130 PSU.

Or you see a 3080 that's by itself, but it's a model that's top end and with an AIO, so the GPU is selling for $1800.

At least the had a 6700XT bt itself..... that's priced at $900.

Also they had a 3060 priced at $450..... at least that's kind of reasonable, kind of.

Realistically, this will be the 100th+ shuffle you've entered in and you still haven't had a chance to buy anything.

No, because their high end cards for DC are still based on TSMC because its the segment where they make a lot of money. On the consumer side of things, they usually cheap out and get the lesser nodes to save money. Samsung's 8nm is nowhere near the level of TSMC's 7nm.

Yeah, so I'm across in Australia and it's bullshit as well. 3080's are between $2400AUD (Inno3D GeForce RTX 3080 iCHILL X3) and $2900AUD (ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 OC). For 3070's, $1600AUD (Inno3D GeForce RTX 3070 iCHILL X3) to $2200AUD (ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 OC). 3090's kill me though, cheapest $3500AUD (Inno3D GeForce RTX 3090 iCHILL X3) and most exy $4200AUD (ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 OC).

*All prices from one specific retailer, but the trend carries across most here.

I am not hopeful about any increase in stock despite this news. I recall that Nvidia decided to restart the production of Turing cards because of the low supply of Ampere GPUs. So by reducing RTX 2060 production, aren't we back to the same spot? Only this time we have Ampere cards that addresses the high, mid and lower end.

Having said that, I do observe that the availability is starting to get a tiny bit better because prices are way too high for gamers to want to splurge on, and miners are sitting on the fence because of high volatility in crypto prices and also the existence of LHR cards.

I personally think that part of this shortage was probably caused deliberately by nVidia, to try and force people onto their "Geforce Now" subscription plan, I suppose it never occurred to them, that not everyone has stable or high broadband connections.

But yes, all the other things are also true, miners, scalpers etc.

The scalpers are merely there because of high demand from miners, gamers too, but miners take the cake, I have seen so many farms, 1x person owning more than 100x RTX3000 series GPU's, there are thousands of these nutjobs.

Since LHR, I have also seen stocks slightly improving, but the prices are too high for gamers, proving again, that miners' claims of "we are not responsible for this shortage" to be false. I frequent the ETHMining subreddit and a forum locally that are full of them, some are selling their rigs now and as the LHR really is unpalatable to them, even with the market rising a little, it hasn't given a major shift up towards profitability, most newbie miners found out quickly, that moving of ETH mining, doesn't solve the issue of profitability, since the majority of miners mine ETH and when everyone moves to the next more profitable coin, the payout is far far less than they would get in ETH. Also in July, there is the case of EIP1559, reducing profit even further. Then there is also the now released Innosilicon miner that mines 2 Giga Hashes, about the same as 32x 3080's further increasing the difficulty level and reducing profits.

I have read more on these things than I would have liked to, but one needs to know and understands one's enemy to know how to defeat them, what I mean by that is, they are panicking and selling their "mines", don't buy them just yet, in short order, they will then let the prices fall very fast as they try to unload in order to make back their money, since they bought them for 3-4x MSRP, forcing them to sell at the original or lower MSRP to gamers, make them feel the hurt, so they don't do this crap again in the future.
