Seemingly Fake Twitter Account Claims the Return of 3dfx Interactive

Anecdotal and an wedge.
Na, I have just wanted an new GPU so long I'm waiting it out again FFS, I might even buy Xe day 1 an this point, or this in full vapour ware, we will dispatch in 2022 mode, giz dat GPUS ffs
Anyway I already have a vodoo something or other Evil king GPU so they'll have to go some way to beat that on Agp.

We will see, and one more day until we hear about a new £10 keyboard maker or something from these peep's.

If Nvidia sold those trademarks, it would have made the news long ago.

3DFX Interactive, 3DFX, Voodoo and Gigapixel are no longer nvidia trademarks with the first of expiring 2004 and revival grace period expired 2008.

meh, #popcorn and wait for leaks to stop dripping.

I posted this already but they could launch a gaming peripheral lineup with 3dfx brand? Like mice, keyboards, headphones etc?

Ya mostly a fake but who knows in this industry right. I mean if 3dfx comes back and bring back SLI or the masses and does not do what Nvidia did with it and make it totally un affordable who knows.

I still love SLI on my gaming rig at home 4k just runs smoother on SLI vs a single card.
ALso quieter and cooling since the load is spread across two GPU's.
Nvidia used to be cool in the days when you could SLI two cheaper cards to get same performance as one of the most expensive cards they sold.
Then they got greedy.

They were greedy well before SLI. imagine buying a new GPU, the 2 weeks later Nvidia buys the company, shuts down their website and offers no support.

Sorry if this was said, but wtf? Didn't nVidia buy the name along with the IP?

Why is this being reported like news? WHY?

That wouldnt make them legit. That would make it an elaborate scam.

or a 'legit scam' - whichever fits best.
i like to make jokes seems you don't :)

3DFx VooDoo card was THE BEST 3D video accelerator ever produced. Period.
In a world where you would play in 320x240 software resolution any 3D games back then, 3DFx blow everything out of water with their Voodoo accelerator. The visual difference it was to huge compared to the existing software rendering back then. I had a 486 DX66 with 8MB of RAM back then and was playing all the awesome 3D games like Wolfenstein, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, NFS1, Carmageddon, etc, and then Quake 1 came. The atmosphere and graphics of that game was and still is, the best of any game ever produced, and I was playing it on 320x400 resolution on my 15" monitor :)
Then after months, I received as a present a 3DFx VooDoo card with 6MB or VRAM. Then I've loaded QuakeGL executable for 3DFx.....
The rest is history.

Don't know about you guys, but worst case scenario, I am oddly enjoying being trolled by that account. Hey, a man can dream. :toast:

Seems they only invest 10% in videocards, the rest goes to TV, Sound Systems and Tablets.

This ain't the 3dfx from the 90s anymore.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

I love the listing: "smartphones, sound systems, graphics cards, appliances, hardware".
And listing of Voodoo6 PCI is a gem on its own.

If this isn't some guy scheming in his basement, I don't what is.

I remember drooling over new 3dfx graphics cards and was truly sad to see them go bankrupt. Back in my fanboy days I was definitely a 3dfx fanboy. Even if they only made boards for Nvidia and/or AMD, I would be tempted to buy one, if only because of nostalgia. That being said, I don't do the fanboying thing anymore because I care more about performance than brand.

Back then you felt like you were really getting something great for your money. These days it just seems meh.

So vodoo 6 PCI , err great , just one thing , who's actually got a PCI slot these days.

And phones and smart TVs plus hardware wtaf, hell no sir your ruining 3DFX's already tarnished lore.

I expected mouse Matt's though so I suppose it's better than that.

The chinese buy every popular brand from the past they can. 3dfx is just one of them it seems. They use the popularity of the old brand to sell garbage, in most cases products that had nothing to do with the original brand. #Fuhgetaboutit

The nasty chinese buy brand names/trademarks. Not companies. Find a source where we can see trademarks availability and brand name expiration dates. They do not last forever.
Nvidia bought 3dfx in 2000. Last year 20 years have passed. How long does the trademark/brand name registration/protection last?

On the link you sent it says status - canceled. I don't know what that means in legal terms, but sounds like it is available.

It never was. You'd have heard of it much earlier if it actually was, and you'd have heard it straight from some former employee.

Whoever is behind this can't even pay for a domain apparently. BTW, arcticmail doesn't respond and it's bound to expire tomorrow.

Besides, making brand new GPUs today? They'd have to get through a minefield of IP patents. Not gonna happen.

Move on, people, outside of the current GPU brands in existence (Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and whatever is happening in mobile world with Adreno/Mali and whatever the name is for Apple's own IGPs), there will be no more new GPU makers. Save for maybe that Chinese Big Island or whatever it's called.

It also means it has not been "reactivated" ;)
