It's been a crazy day for PC graphics, with Intel announcing its big entry into the gaming graphics space with the new Intel Arc brand of graphics processors, arriving in Q1-2022. The first of these, codenamed "Alchemist," has been known as the "DG2" for some time now. Intel revealed that not only is this a high-performance product, but also meets DirectX 12 Ultimate requirements, including real-time raytracing. The company is also working on an AI-accelerated supersampling feature rivaling NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. Later in the day, Intel Graphics put out a delectable video of AAA gameplay as rendered on an Intel Arc graphics processor, and it looks nice! We're shown titles like "Metro Exodus," "Rift Breaker," "Crysis Remastered," and "Forza Horizon 4," rendered at 1440p, with eye-candy rivaling any contemporary performance-segment GPU from NVIDIA or AMD.

The video presentation by Intel Graphics follows.

Hi @btarunr, what do you mean by "rendered at 1440p, with eye-candy rivaling any contemporary performance-segment GPU from NVIDIA or AMD"?

As long as Intel doesn't manufacture those inhouse they'll be vaporware.
Retool your 14++++++++++++++++nm into GPU manufacture already, damnit!

All I want is a third player to come in, throw down crazy prices, and make nvidia and AMD sweat. I'm tired of the pricing racket they're running.
I do hope to be wrong, but in my opinion it's unlikely that Intel will manage to produce enough GPUs to drive prices down significantly by its own, shortages like those affecting substrates are expected to last until the end of 2022 and (unless I've missed something) Intel is going to produce the former DG2 on TSMC's 7nm process, meaning that it's going to compete for an already limited capacity instead of using its own fabs. On the bright side a third player might prove to be beneficial to the consumers in the medium-long term.

Yes, this is what I keep thinking. Move Intel's CPU production to 10nm (finally) and make some decent midrange GPUs with all that 14nm capacity. Though I doubt it can even work that way as GPUs are way bigger than CPUs so who knows what the volume of production would be?

If Nvidia can sell all their 12nm 1660 Supers for over $400 now, then Intel could sell a somewhat more powerful 14nm GPU for $300-350 and make a mint and maybe some midrange gamers happy.

Intel is good at playing prerendered videos...sometimes. Are they still using VLC? We wouldn't want another mishap in front of press.

I would rather see PowerVR/Imagination Technologies do it

I noticed some tearing at the 1:00 mark, mid torso. While it seems like picking nits, this was a slow pan in a product demo video. That's like a movie trailer using something from the blooper reel. That aside, it seems impressive enough, and I think most gamers would be happy to get a card like this right now. Intel couldn't pick a better time to enter the market, as everything will probably sell instantly. Go back a couple years ago, when one could get a Polaris for $100-150, now that would have been bad timing!

I dunno, looks like low res texture, little/no anisotropic filtering, no AA, low shadow definition, little/no particle effects, areas with lower poly counts/draw distances. I am not convinced.

I can max-out most of these games at 440p on my gtx 1060 6gb, so not seeing the attraction!

Just going to be another Midrange card release (just like i740)

If I can see the bad frame rate/jitters from YT on my phone....yeah.

AMD FSR IS AI-accelerated supersampling feature?????
Are you joking?
The video doesn't declare rendered at 1440p even.

Too late for that, something has to be done about the miners/scalpers first all that would be accomplished by disrupting the current pricing is making scalpers rejoice as their margin for flipping increases and miners ensure stock remain scarce. Flooding the market is an obvious fix but they have no incentive nor have the fabs to do that. The they'd have a win on their hands if they made these cards absolute crap for mining and the performance to outperform everything in the midrange being priced as a midrange card ~$400 max.

In the old days we paired ATi GPU's with Intel CPU's.. now we pair Intel GPU's with AMD CPU's.. imagine if they were awesome?

Looking forward to having another option, if they are worthy.. but they know how to play with sand, I'm sure they will be pretty decent..

Intel Showed Off AAA Gaming Capabilities of Intel Xe dGPU in 2017 too.

Game requirements are increasing about about the same rate as Intel's glacial development pace; They've had a viable product for four years at least and need to release the damn product before this becomes the Duke Nukem Forever of graphics cards.

Aren’t they going to outsource production? That might help, since so much of Intel’s woes are in the fabrication.
