Come August 17, SK hynix's best-selling "Gold P31" line of Solid State Drives (SSDs) will be complemented with a 2 TB capacity version. Gold P31, SK hynix's PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, has garnered consistent praise from professional tech reviewers for its unique performance and power efficiency benefits. The drive released last year in 1 TB and 500 GB capacities, and is now adding a 2 TB option for users of high-capacity storage including gamers and content creators. The 2 TB version will be marked with a sleek, black-color PCB (Printed Circuit Board) instead of the usual green.

The 2 TB Gold P31 will offer 3,500 MB/s in sequential reads and 3,200 MB/s in sequential writes, the highest from a PCIe Gen3 drive, as well as an industry-leading endurance rating of 1,200 TBW (for 2 TB capacity; Terabytes Written: total amount of data an SSD can write in its lifetime), thus providing performance, capacity, power efficiency, and reliability all around. With read speeds of 172.2 MB/s per watt of power, the Gold P31 is indeed 434% more efficient than comparable products (for 1 TB capacity; Tallis, Billy. "The Best NVMe SSD for Laptops and Notebooks: SK hynix Gold P31 1 TB SSD Reviewed." AnandTech. August 27, 2020).

Sanglae Lee (Robert), Head of Marketing at SK hynix said, "For customers' demand for high-capacity and high-performance, the 2 TB Gold P31 SSD will be their best choice. SK hynix will continuously expand the consumer SSD product line-up in order to enhance its market presence."

SK hynix sells the PCIe NVMe Gold P31 lineup along with a SATA-interfaced Gold S31 series, both of which are available now on Amazon.com. The drives will be offered on Amazon's Deal of the Day sale on August 23 to celebrate the 2 TB Gold P31's launch.

so confused,
advertising with ultra low power,
172.2 MB/s per watt;

doesn't this mean 3500/172 = 20W of power during sequential reads? imho something is off here, someone around to pull me out of my confusion? :)

secondly 434% better compared to what eggsactly

hmm yeahs,
so maximum power usage is 6.4watts,
not sure how representable the 172 number would be to end-users

seems to me they are comparing it to the samsung 970 evo plus with the 434% number (172/434 = 39.7)

on page5:
P31: 2742MB/s @ 2.35watt average power.
the samsung 970 evo plus: 2754 @ 4.64watt average power
ok so its up there, on that specific point on page5 would make you roughly twice as happy power-wise;

apparently during the bigger data tests the difference in power consumption increases even though the idle power of the samsung is quite impressive

I think it's time for all manufacturers to include DDR4 cache memory in their sataIII SSD's.

It's strange that it took this long. I bought a competitor's SSD because this wasn't available a year ago.

These drives keep showing up in reviews as a genuinely good NVME drive, with low power and high efficiency, and good speeds

that reading is from 4K random read and write, where the drives run much slower

Heres sequential

i just picked a spec/test in one of the replies above to deconstruct the "power efficiency" number, read it :) it is egggsaactly what u linked
so roughly 2x power efficiency above samsungs 970 evo plus

Gees it took long enough. It's the only reason I didn't buy the P31 for my new build, 1TB was not enough.
