The $100 dollar notebook designed for third world countries, was introduced at the UN World Congress. The Notebook runs at 500MHz, using an AMD chip. It has 1GB of Flash memory to be able to save something and comes with an 8 inch display. it will have a battery which can be recharged by hand. One minute of manual charging yields about 10 minutes work time. Alright, you all have heard of the Notebook before. Here is one picture in real life:

looks like crap but for 100 it may be worth it to some :)

I want one! I just need to be able to type and access the internet whever I want.

by the look of it i believe the china mens will do beter ones.Do u wanna bet...?

I'd like having a laptop that could be used without needing to plug it in somewhere to charge. :) Too bad there won't be any of those available for individuals to buy... :(

I bet there will be some of them on eBay.

ebay.... hmmm.... $50 laptop?

It's a $100 dollar laptop.... of course it's crap. It's probably better than the six year old computer I have, which still surfs the internet fine and runs word processing applications. It doesn't need to be able to play doom 3 to provide people in third world nations basic computing functionality.

Yeah sure what ever...... (One minute of manual charging yields about 10 minutes work time)

This not efficient to even use.....and a six year old computer doesnt need manual charging....

well there will be a way to plug it into an AC plug as far as I remember...

I guess it would be interesting to see, a class of 20 kids, sitting in a wooden & clay classroom, and all of them cranking the charger for 5 minutes first, so they can use the notebook for 50 minutes.

but I really like this project. Been following it for a while...

cheers
