Ahead of its launch, Amazon in The Netherlands started listing some of the first 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" desktop processors, with the top Core i9-12900K getting listed at an exorbitant 847€ (including 21% cumulative tax). The Core i7-12700K is listed at 642€, making it a nearly 200€ cheaper. The mid-tier Core i5-12600K is listed at 324€, a price-point commanded by top Core i7 parts of the old.

Intel is expected to debut the 12th Gen Core processor family these three, along with their "-KF" variants that lack integrated graphics, which are expected to be priced anywhere between 30€ to 15€ less than their "K" counterparts. For those with discrete graphics who don't intend to use any of the media-acceleration features of the iGPU, "KF" variants could be a nice way to save a little.

Expecting price drops from AMD
Is that suppose to be humor?

retarded prices...wth
The EU tax is the retarded part. Do the math and the i5 will sell for $296 in the US. Not cheap but not deal breaker either ... that is if Alder Lake isn't a bust. It's the B660 boards + locked cpu's w/DDR4 RAM that will be the best sellers imo.

I guess the price gouging bs already started. I'm confident I will be okay with my ryzen 5900 for sometime in the future.

The price gouging started awhile back with AMD. If I had to guess I'd say nearly 80% of gaming builds posted on the internet are now done with B560 boards and locked Intel cpu's just so peeps can make their budget in order to fit in a graphics card. The writing was on the wall when the Ryzen 3600 shot up to $225 USD.

At least where I live, the ryzen 5900 and its series had no price increase, When it was released here was 600 usd and to this day still being sold for 600 usd, so not bad about that, gpus yes, its as bad as in the US and the rest of the world.

The prices are expected, you use to be able to buy top end non enthusiasts range for team red & blue for sub 300.00. we have shown them they can charge anything they want and it gets bought. We have seen AMD charging extreme grade money for x900/x950 series with threadripper sitting on top higher again.

Let's face it, the 21% or 27% isn't the cause of high prices. They were there before the pandemic, too.

All of the EU and UK get bummed by tax, the US has it easy.
As an American living in Germany, I must say you are correct. Then when we buy with the dollar in Germany, the dollar to euro conversion is rough 20% and then add the 19% VAT...it sucks! However, it is easier to buy computer parts here than in the states.

Hi,
If they were they already would have and so far it's only been like 60.us atm on the 5950x
Nothing on the 5900x and micro center is flooded with them both

There are some parts which are not overpriced - power supplies, memory, solid state drives, mice, keyboards, cases.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
These are scalper prices by sellers gambling on availability of preorders.

Either way, the i9 looks more pointless than ever for Alder Lake, paying a huge premium just to get four more Atom E-cores is bonkers. A high-end flagship desktop doesn't prioritise power-efficiency and paying even $200 for an extra quad-core atom bolted on is terrible value, even if it was something that you'd legitimately need or want in a desktop. At €200 for a quad-core Atom you're being mugged, near enough.

Nope, Alder Lake is all about taming power usage for mobile parts. Alder Lake-S is simply the inevitable desktop chip that shares the architecture and I would be surprised if much or indeed any software can truly exploit this big.LITTLE architecture before Alder Lake is superceded entirely by the next generation(s). Comparisons between the i9 and i7 are going to be very interesting when the launch reviews arrive.

Hi,
If it's a beast against 5950x big little won't matter if it's optimized oc'ers just want scores and gaming performance with all core oc.

But if amd next release is better than 5950x then yeah intel will hit back soon after and crap all over 12900k just like they keep doing 11900k/ 10900k/..

be interesting to see how it actually performs on win 11 real world use as win 11 has the scheduler for the big/little

It's the early adopters that are gonna show us how it really is, hope there are at least a couple amid the flurry of AMD users here now

£310 11700 is a better deal than the slower 3700X or a £350 5800X
£140 10400F is a better deal than pretty much anything right now. Enough for a lot of people to question if they really need those two extra cores that badly.

Intel are dominating the midrange because AMD won't compete on price there any more (and why should they?)
This is (finally) what healthy CPU competition looks like.
