Good news everyone, for once it looks like prices are going to be going down for something computer related, as DRAM prices are expected to drop this quarter. At least this is what Nanya Technology Corporation's president, Dr. Pei-Ing Lee told investors during the company's third quarter results announcement, last week.

Apparently the word that was used was correction, although this is meant to be taken as a drop in prices for DRAM, due to less market demand. This is tied to the shortage of various components, not just in the consumer space, but also the server, and mobile devices space, as well as the EV market. That said, Nanya is expecting continued demand for mobile and server DRAM, as well as enterprise PC's and various other consumer products, as well as SSDs. The shortfall is likely to be from EVs, digital TV and specifically Chromebooks are mentioned.

At the same time, the company is readying its first DDR5 products using a 10 nm-class node, with its pilot production being said to be on schedule. Oddly enough, Nanya seems to focus on lower capacity 8 Gbit chips, rather than the 16 Gbit chips its competitors seem to be going for. The investor presentation also mentions that the ground-breaking for its new fab has been delayed until next year, due to - at least in some part - the pandemic. That said, it seems like Nanya - just like many other tech companies - have had record profits this past quarter, with a quarter on quarter revenue increase of 5.3 percent and a year on year increase of 55.6 percent.

I've only found Nanya ICs on el cheapo DDR3 and DDR4 RAMs which don't even heatsinks. The only reason I bought them was when I sent my primary RAMs for warranty. I may be wrong but I won't buy the words of company who has a mere 3% market share

Don't get me wrong. Nanya's still the biggest supplier outside of the top three. But until a giant shakeup happens in the top three, I don’t see Nanya denting the market in anyway.

DDR5 release might be the start of usable IGP for gaming

Peeing :D

Probably not with the latencies they're running at now. At least when I was tinkering with 2400G, tightening timings gave bigger fps boost than trying to crank up memory frequency higher. In any case, we'd get way better performance with current memory if AMD bothered to release RDNA2-powered APUs - but hey, you can get one with the Steam Deck. I guess we'll see lots of interesting info when it hits the market and people start trying to overclock it.

Which DDR is that? Because as DDR5 enters the scene, it's darn impossible for DDR4 not to come down in price. Not overnight, of course...

What's nanya?....

in my crystal ball i see comming :

1- a flood
2- power outage
3- factory fire

price go skyhigh

Up next in tech news. The big 3 memory manufacturers have all said they will be restricting ddr4 output for the foreseeable future due to oversupply in the marketplace.

Its just a matter of time.

I bet you wanted to post just to make fun of his name. Then added shit about DDR5 and iGPU so mods don't delete your post. I know, I know. You swear on your mum's grave that's not how it was and I agree with you it’s a coincidence. Just letting you know I'd do the same too if I noticed the guy's name ;)

The latencies are comparable to the DDR4 used in laptops. Next gen iGPUs will need bandwidth, they always do. Hence why dGPUs dont still use GDDR3. The bigger the GPU the more bandwidth you need.

Also increased bandwidth showed consistent scalign all the way back on ryzen 2000g series iGPUs:

Dude, a 3% market share is enough to have visibility and build reputation. I agree that they cannot affect the big picture in the short-to-middle run; but this kind of companies are good alternatives to your classic market leaders (like samsung there) that use shady techniques, get political, f#*k with the consumer, and cause some scandal every now and then. I for one, have principles and don't feed samsung even when cheapest.
That's a sound anime girls make.

nunya damned business, thats what.....hehehe :)

oops, sorry, different word.....

But atm I am agreeing with the flood/elect failure/fire theory....cause we surely can't have DDR4 prices heading downwards now can we ?

Actually it may dip a little for a short period of time, until supply tightens up and then production ramps down, then the prices will skyrocket to the outer rim of the universe for sure.... been there, done that with the previous generational changeovers.....

In my experience older memory often gets more expensive, when it's no longer produced and everyone wants it to upgrade their old computers.

Very true, its amazing how DDR3 modules are still avalable as new from some online stores here in Australia. Their prices for a given capacity are higher than DDR4.

After a while, yes. But the initial trend is down.
