Intel along with XtremeSystems ran a phase-change cooling demo of a ridiculously overclocked 45nm B1 stepping Yorkfield (quad-core Penryn) running at around 5.5GHz. FUGGER and Paul Otellini are on the pictures below. Keep an eye on this thread at XS, for updates.

Holy sheeeeet - 8.4 sec for 1M SuperPi

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
take THAT phenom!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
take THAT phenom!

Sigh -- and the wheel turns around once again.

I hope you know that if AMD goes belly-up, then all innovation from Intel stops, you know?

You'll be using the same 32nm chips 10 years from now unless someone keeps Intel on their toes. ;)

amd won't go belly up... with the hd 3000 series right around the corner for ati, i'm sure that amd's cashflow will raise exponentially.

nice, but how about cooling it with stock :D

Why in the hell isn't AMD putting on the hoo ha, like Intel's doing? What is AMD's problem? Are they waiting to give us some "big suprise"? The more we wait, the more I doubt it.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

First why did you have to try to start a fan boy war? Second, I haven't seen any tests about phenom, just hype, sort of reminds me of Conroe. if yorksfield is that fast then awsome. Ive always been a fan of the under dog (used to have a machine with a Cyrix processor) so i DO hope that Phenom kicks ass. I'll wait for real world tests before i make the decision on which processor to use in my next build.

in all honesty, i'm impartial to brand names. the truth of the matter is that phenom is NOT amd's ace in the hole, it's just a filler product to tide us over until the real high performance chips come out. whether intel or amd is on top shouldn't matter to anyone, price/performance ratio should be the selling point...

Random Murderer I agree. Price, performance, quality, and reliability are what people should really go by.

As far as AMD going under. They were in worse shape earlier this year, they're going to continue and probably continue to get stomped for a while. They have innovation in both markets (CPU, GPU) and will bounce back. They also have enough fanboys to keep them alive as long as their products can at least keep up with current requirements.

Me personally, I've owned mostly AMD lately. I prefer Nvidia and AMD. But if Intel pulls/stays ahead and keeps the prices "reasonable" I'll buy them.

No, you just are impatient and worrying about the wrong thing. How many flipping people are gonna run a quad core at 5.5+ Ghz 24/7. No one. The kind of cooling required and continuous monitoring is ridiculous. Im glad Intel is pushing the envelope and coming with innovations. For the longest damn time they were stagnant and complacent. AMD kicked it up a notch and now they are coming on strong. AMD will be fine. I doubt the Phenom will match this type of power but I also feel they dont have to. IF AMD can come out with a chip that goes head to head or is only slightly LESS than the next conroes and priced right, they will have a winner. Quit knocking the heads of AMD. They are gonna be fine, it just taking them longer due to R&D, Money and the ATI acquisition.

I can't see the important pics clearly enough to see what is what. It looks like they were running 3dMark 05 by the pic. The score doesn't look all that awesome either.

D@mn that's fast. Wonder what that could with LN.

This one Its 3DMark05 click on it again and it looks better but not clear and did you see the WR broken its for the CPU ;)

Cpu Score
23,278

Cpu Test 1: 13.7fps

Cpu Test 2: 18.4fps

looks like its on stock volts, if 1.325v is going to be stock for this chip.

cause theres nothign to hoo ha about ...

ok, that explains the 3dmark scores, but the am3 score(292,840) is still a world record... the previous record was 288k i believe...
 I didnt see that one, yep its a New WR on Aquamark in hwbot Aquamark - 288029 marks
but what was the card at hmmm...

yea, and if you check out the thread over on xs, he says he hit 350k during initial testing...
and he's running ONE video card...

5.5Ghz... Thats just an overclocked quad core... 8.4 seconds superpi doesn't even seem that impressive, for a "brand new" 5.5Ghz CPU with 4 cores. Intel always does something retarded like this right when AMD is about to kill them. Remember when AMD hit 1Ghz and had a huge supply of them? Intel "shipped" Ghz chips like 2 days later, and you couldn't find them anywhere. They can sure paint a pretty picture.
