yeah.. or so i've heard. just google it lol.

That's interesting spin on things. People are saying NV would lose money, but perhaps they would gain money because of increased revenue from gfx cards because Intel chipsets would support SLI.

I'm just looking at what has become standards in the past. At this point Xfire and SLI are both fighting for it (in a sense). Its like BR vs HD. If Nvidia makes theirs available with other MFGs chipsets then they (may) have a broader base.

Intel would do well to offer nVidia a fair amount of money for that one too, because think about when you're making the decision on which mobo to buy. Usually it comes down to chipset, and graphics compatibility (with your preferred brand). So now, there's the preferred Intel chipset, but it can handle Xfire AND SLI. "I'll get this one just in case I switch later." Intel will sell more boards, nVidia will sell more graphics cards, errbudy wins.

The P5B is regarded by many as a very good, but low-end, P965 board. My P5B-Deluxe wasn't much better, it could only get my E4300 up to 3GHz regardless of settings, the board just wouldn't got past 333 FSB. I sold the P5B-Deluxe and put the E4300 in a P5N-E and got it to 3.2GHz.:nutkick:

i have a ABit ab9Pro and with my ambient temperature and humbidty .. i live on a tropical island ... i can get 410 FSB

tropical island? where lol

nvidia chipset = northbridge (expensive) + southbridge (cheap)

if they sell just the southbridge nvidia makes little money and intel makes the rest

But if Intel releases their X38 platform, then eveyone is going to buy that.

And if they buy that, they will HAVE to buy Crossfire.

So, in a way, if they give Intel their 680i SouthBridge, they won't make money off of the motherboards, but at least they will still make money on GPUs, which is how they make most of their revenue anyway.

When is this X38 coming out again?
I talked to a guy at EVGA yesterday that mentioned the 790i will be out in a month or so.
X38 or 790i Hmmmm.

the 38 should be out on the 24th of this month :) was just looking at nicx fourms for it.

790i! only a month!? I thought it was the start of nexted year, just before peryn.

I was as surprised as you when he said that.I think I will call again with another "question" about my 8800 and then pick his brain about this 790i release time.

tell us if he says anything more specific.. my system is driving me nuts lol I think I need a new mobo.. maybe I have a bad vista iso.. I donno lol :shadedshu it just did some funny stuffs :p I hit home and it opens up like 10 tabs I had open before.. just a minor of bugs :P

You know this setup is nice and all, but why in the h*ll are they using FB-DIMMs?!?!? I mean, it make absolutely no sense for an enthusiast targeted platform. Since this is an X38 based chipset, DDR2 or DDR3 would make a sh*tload more sense.

Its dual socket. Thats why.

That's impossible. 790i hasn't even been annouced.

Now this AMD "snake" ad is making more sense!

woa woa woa. Should I wait then for a month for 790i to come out, & drop the price of all things 680i?? Or should I wait a month and buy the 790i !?

this will definitely be an interesting war with both being SLI compatible, but only Intel being Crossfire compatible... hmm. X38 looks pretty insane tho.

Have there been any official releases or press updates on the 790i? Or only word of mouth? I found googling 2 other forums that had info on it, but it was scanty as best.

I think its scanty at best but Im prety sure it will be out just before intels 45nm chip.. so like January.. unless the tech was right but someone said we should be hearing more about it if its due out so soon.. donno! lol I dont think theres mobo "wars" like processors so I think its not coming out so soon as a suprise to compete with x38.
