Unexpected events tend to happen in the world of graphics cards, and today seems like no exception. According to the public announcement on EVGA forums, a truck delivery full of the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards got stolen. The truck was going on its route from San Francisco to the EVGA Southern California distribution center. Inside the vehicle, countless GPUs were ranging in MSRP from $329.99 up to $1959.99. However, the company doesn't specify how many GPUs are now missing. It is important to note that any sale of these stolen GPUs is considered a felony, and if you have any information regarding this, please get in touch with EVGA at stopRTX30theft@evga.com email address.

Here is the full announcement from EVGA's forum:

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on October 29, 2021, a shipment of EVGA GeForce RTX 30-Series Graphics Cards was stolen from a truck en route from San Francisco to our Southern California distribution center.

These graphics cards are in high demand and each has an estimated retail value starting at $329.99 up to $1959.99 MSRP.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that under state and Federal law:
It is a criminal and civil offense to "buy or receive" property that has been stolen. Cal. Penal Code section 496(a).
It is also a criminal and civil offense to "conceal, sell, withhold, or aid in concealing selling or withholding" any such property.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER notice that:
If you are able to successfully register your product and see it under My Products, then your product is NOT affected by this notice, you can also check the serial number at the EVGA Warranty Check page to see if it is affected.
EVGA will NOT REGISTER or HONOR ANY WARRANTY or UPGRADE claims on these products.

If you have or receive any information relating to these products, please share that with us at stopRTX30theft@evga.com.

We appreciate your attention to this issue.

Thank you,

Does this mean that stolen cards are of less quality than the ones You can normally purchase? :)
They should double the warranty period for those cards instead, like they were banged up pretty good, smuggled in someone's a**, yet are perfectly functional and we are backing them with double the warranty period.

If the shipment is a high value load, the load will usually have a escort from pick up to drop off.

What people don't know is that truck drivers can not carry guns for protection, in the US. Many gangs know this, so they will go after loads.

Something doesn't sound correct, if EVGA knew the cargo load is full of graphics cards, I'm talking about a 52 foot box trailer, with all graphics card that are in high demand and are selling for double then retail price, that load should have an escort or EVGA is lying to get free press.

Southern California has high rates of cargo theft from gangs that target directly truck drivers that can not carry any guns or weapons.

While I hate that all those jammin cards were stolen, this seems like they're fishing just a little bit. They're unlikely to ever find those cards except for the VERY few that get registered by the people that have no idea they're buying stolen goods from middlemen who likely also have no idea they're buying & selling stolen goods.

Depends on the state. Truckers here I know for a FACT carry. Not to protect their loads but themselves. However, some I am sure will do both.
Some states just have dumb laws on certain things.

As for the OP- If any are registered, If the person that bought it genuinely didn't know it was stolen and cooperates and it leads to an arrest or conviction... Should really consider giving that person the same GPU as a reward. (as we all know Insurance is gonna payout to EVGA and in that the insurance company owns the recovered GPUs once the claim is paid out)

lol when ppl buying used stuff above 100$, and dont ask for a receipt of original purchase.
no one spends over 400$ on a single item and doesnt get some form of invoice, especially when shops have to have one for getting taxed.
buying used and not asking for POP, means buyer accepts the possibility its stolen.

Depending where you buy it. For a high end card, the seller should have proof of purchase, be it a email, or receipt. Why would you not have for something that costs upto $1960. Anyone buying one of the $1960 cards without checking for proof of purchase must know it's knocked off, or are a dumb git.

They can carry a gun if they are driving within the same state and if the driver is a owner operator. Most companies Prohibit company drivers from carrying any form of weapons. They can carry a gun, there are no laws to prohibit carrying a gun in a commercial vehicle. But once you travel to a different state, the gun holder has to Abide by those state laws. It's hard to abide by so many state laws.

When I'm driving my load from state to state, I'm usually only in some states for a few hours just passing through.

It kinda sounds like "Oh, hey, we cannot put more cards on the shelves 'cause they "got stolen" Yep, definitely got stolen, not just an excuse on our part. Also - if You find our card somewhere with a price a bit closer to MSRP, don't buy it, You should pay at least 2x for it."

I've sold many graphics card in person, Craigslist, reddit. The only times that a person asked me for an invoice was when the card failed and the Manufacturer wants proof of purchase. I make a simple invoice online and send it to them. Of over 100 gpus that I've sold over the years, nobody asked for a receipt upfront.

Those cards will land on craiglist or ebay, of course they won't be sold in regular retail chain.

As for stupid gun talk - no one is going to risk their life over a truckload of GPU's, EVGA's insurred.

Probably going to go to a mining farm or being sold to a mining farm. My guess is they'd have better luck selling in bulk to dump it quick over holding them and trying to sell them off one by one. I doubt any individual that's buying a scalped priced card has anything to worry about in terms of the card coming from this stolen shipment.

Way to go on the bs conspirancy train

If the shipment is a high value load, the load will usually have a escort from pick up to drop off.

This is not a "high value load", it's just consumer electronics, no need to exagerate. It's high value to a single regular person, but a drop in the ocean regarding normal shipping volume of products

Seems like the family is back to business :D

sure until they unknownling go to register the card, since the warranty transfers, and the serial# comes back stolen. ya think eVGA won't press to prosecute, unless they snitch?

I know a driver that lives in Kentucky - he makes (used to, our distributor changed companies they ship through) runs up through the mid-west and towards east coast - that has 4 guns in his cab; 2 different pistols and 2 different rifles. It might have something to do with the fact that he was a marine, but it could just be the way he was also raised (hunting, shooting) . Nice guy as long as you treat him with respect when he gives you the same courtesy. I'd hate to see what would happen to someone that came up on him and wanted to rob him or steal is truck.

He would likely die trying protect an insured cargo on a minimum wage. Americans and their stupid ideas about guns and protection
(all the respect for the ex-marine but it was already proved several times that regardless of training or ability, you're more likely to die when you're supposedly "protected" with a gun than without)
