MediaTek Announces Flagship Dimensity 9000 5G SoC on TSMC 4 nm

Well i am speaking from what i have seen, maybe you're in a different dimension
Not really, Mediatek's sold more SoC's than Qualcomm last year! It has an even bigger lead this year, the fact that the US or Western markets don't have too many products using them just shows in your statement. The biggest markets in Asia & the world, India & China, are getting tons of high(er) end products powered by them. Perhaps look outside your region?
Global smartphone SoC market share

Counterpoint: Mediatek is the undisputed leader of the chipset market for Q2 2021

Mediatek left the high end phone/tablet SoC space a few years back (in part due to Qualcomm's combination of technical dominance and Intel-style business practices (exclusivity deals, bribing OEMs to not use competitors' products, etc.)), and have largely been concentrating on making low-end and midrange chipsets since. But they've slowly been working their way back, and the Dimensity 1200 launched at the perfect time to capitalize on Hisilicon's effective disappearance from the market, winning relatively major designs like the OnePlus Nord2, while performing very well too (slightly faster than the Snapdragon 860 overall). They've been delivering solid improvements for a while, so there is reason to believe this chip will be very good.

As we've seen, especially from Apple, it is very much about the overall chip design, since although most Arm based devices out there share a common architecture, they clearly don't perform the same, even at similar clock speeds. Obviously a lot of that comes down to software optimisation as well and this is where MediaTek has a bit to prove.
I have a strange feeling that the absolutely massive cache that Apple uses plays a big role.

To some degree, yes, but even that (and their node advantage) doesn't explain how they're able to deliver that much higher performance, and typically at lower power than their ARM-based competitors. Those massive transistor budgets are clearly spent on more than just huge caches.

Imo any snap is better than MediaTek, which is mainly used in cheap phones and tablets. I would never buy any phone with a MediaTek in it. This new Dimensity 9000 might actually be something, as seemingly high end manufacturers are having a sniff.
Mediatek is the biggest SOC supplier today, much more than Qualcomm, because their processors are better value for performance, also all the compatibility issues people here complain about are ironed out and mediatek is as reliable as Qualcomm today

I guess this new chip will go somewhere to improve their rep

5G for what? in a smartphone.

Drölf Cores and X Gigahertz for candycrush?

But if u hate Mediatek trow u PS4 or 5 to the garbage the Controller IC from DS4 and DS5 is from Mediatek

Good to know. As to whether they are the biggest, I feel with the ongoing supply issues, it is hard to tell what is real reason. I feel the shortages gave Mediatek a much needed bump in popularity/ take up rate since phone and mobile device makers are struggling to get their hands on Qualcomm SOCs. And with the switch to Samsung fab, Qualcomm also lost the fab edge with the SN 888 running really hot and throttles a lot.
