Electronic Arts Inc. and Lucasfilm Games are joining forces to continue delivering all-new, world-class gaming experiences set within the beloved Star Wars galaxy. Respawn Entertainment, best known for their work on Apex Legends, Titanfall and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is leading the development and production of these new projects. Vince Zampella, Group GM and Founder of Respawn, will oversee this new phase of EA's relationship with Lucasfilm, building on Respawn's award-winning history in game development and expertise in telling compelling Star Wars stories.

Game Director Stig Asmussen and his team at the studio are already working on the next game in the action adventure Star Wars Jedi series, and are joined by two new teams working to deliver additional unique Star Wars gameplay experiences across multiple genres. Leading the development of Respawn's all-new Star Wars first-person shooter game is Peter Hirschmann, Game Director at Respawn, who has a long and accomplished history with the Star Wars franchise. The third title is a Star Wars strategy game developed through a production collaboration with the newly formed studio Bit Reactor, helmed by games industry veteran Greg Foerstch. Respawn will produce the new Star Wars strategy game while Bit Reactor leads on the development of the title.

"We are excited to continue working with the superbly talented developers at Respawn," said Douglas Reilly, VP, Lucasfilm Games. "They have demonstrated excellence in telling epic Star Wars stories along with best-in-class gameplay across different genres and we are looking forward to bringing more amazing experiences to the galaxy far, far away."

"Building on the previous successes of our EA relationship, this new collaboration highlights the trust and mutual respect shared between the world-class teams at EA, Respawn and Lucasfilm Games," said Sean Shoptaw, SVP, Walt Disney Games. "Fostered by the expertise and passion within each team, we will create thrilling original games for diverse audiences across the Star Wars galaxy."

"Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell," said Peter Hirschmann, game director at Respawn. Peter previously worked as VP of development at LucasArts, and was executive producer on the original Star Wars Battlefront games. Hirschmann and the team at Respawn have just begun work on the title.

Work has already begun on all three of these projects, and Respawn is looking for talent to join the teams. Additional information on available job openings can be found at Respawn Careers.

"We are huge fans of Star Wars here at Respawn and we're thrilled to work with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years," said Zampella. "If you want to make great Star Wars games, you should come join us on our journey."

The sad thruth is that nothing will ever come close to Star Wars Battlefront I (2004) and II (2005).

EA turned my favorite childhood game into pay to win mechanics, I still remember when the ability to choose a Jedi/Sith in combat was based on KDA and not how much money (and time, to a derisory degree) was spent inside the game and as much as I like Lucasfilm (and LucasArt) productions we all know that when there's EA in the context it just exist to milk the franchise and force anticonsumer practices.

I wish Lucasfilm the best but I'm prepared to be disappointed one more time.

You mean the infamous backlash of Battlefront II. When customers were petitioning Disney to revoke EAs license to make SW games. Yeah, Much successes, such mutual respect. But then again, Disney did destroy the SW franchise so i guess no surprise there when they ignored the petition and the communities demands.

::EDIT::

Also -- Since this is an EA title, I hope no TPU members are in a rush to pre-order this game. Wait for a month or two after its release and if you have to have it, it will highly likely be 40% off

Have Respawn ever done a strategy game?
A quick search says "no".

I'd never heard of BitReactor before just now, it seems like it's some devs from Firaxis Studios of XCOM fame, but I wasn't aware Firaxis had been shut down.

I guess I'd be optimistic if it wasn't EA, though I somehow managed to enjoy Titanfall2 and Apex in spite of EA so what do I know?

There will be two games.

Respawn makes FPS.
Bit Reactor will make RTS (hopefully with some turn-based elements) and was established few days ago, they'll probably have some support from Respawn (shared resources since BR just opened up).

I honestly want a solid sequel to Tie Fighter. I have too many memories with that game.
Squadrons was a decent game but too short I felt and not in depth (mission felt simplistic).

I'm still a bit peeved that Star Wars 1313 was scrapped, it looked like it would have been a good game. I haven't been impressed by a Star Wars game for a long time and I'm not holding my breath to see anything good come of this.

I'd still take Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace game (in fact I've got this stashed away in a box somewhere) over the craptastic new version of Star Wars Battlefront 1/2.

TIE fighter was the only Star Wars themed game I would put on the "awesome" level. All others are between "OK" and "meh".

Eternally Avoided

Thats what said company's releases pronounce like to me. EA is not earning a single cent from me. Everyone else: benefit of doubt. EA? Nope. You just know what you get. Its either shit on release or you get it later down the line.

Even their best attempts at doing everything right are overshadowed by the ultimate shite that is Origin and a limited post release support period. Every time, you smell, see and read the corporate bullshit. Even the welcome message and its translation quality upon opening Origin is completely puke-inducing. The whole customer journey - Its a complete immersion killer. Hard Pass on all the things.

Its like you are a Cyberpunk NPC being a customer of EA. Sooner or later, you know the floor produces a clipping error while you eat that plastic burrito.

Really, the best way I feel I can support Respawn, is by playing Apex as a freeloader so EA just loses money on it but i still vouch for a dev producing OK content.

One can hope for a new SW MMO. They are beating the dead horse with SWTOR with new "expansions", however those are mostly like DLCs and graphics....pfff....20 years old one

I'm agree with @Vayra86, having several bad experiences with EArts has taught my wallet well.

I might watch a stream of these games, thats as close as I want to get.

Playing Dice’s BFII in the past few years has actually been pretty good since they removed all of the pay to win aspects. You can still pay for stuff, but they’re just cosmetics, and you can get those by playing and doing well. Any ability enhancements are strictly done on a play to acquire basis, and newbees aren’t necessarily at a disadvantage with the new balancing. That said, you are absolutely correct in that no one will get close to the pre-Disney era of games.

Yes yes yes, but can we have a remake of SwKotR 1 & 2 in the new U5 engine or something?
Aspyr is doing a remake of Kotor 1, I hear this time Malak is Revan's twin sister

and if they could finish KOTOR2
I think Obsidian stated "not while Keith Richards still lives" so you may be waiting a while /s
One can hope for a new SW MMO
EA & Bioware have stated this year SWTOR has no plans of shut down and makes them money so you can hope just realize it's highly unlikey
