ASRock Joins The Metaverse with Phantom Gaming EVO NFT

The newest example of the NFT scam - Julian Lennon is selling NFT's of memorabilia of his father, John Lennon, including "an audio-visual presentation of his 3x Gibson guitars, and handwritten notes for Hey Jude" - and then keeping the actual physical items in question... :kookoo:

Anyone here want to buy an NFT of a photo of a couple of 2TB SSD's for £99? I'll keep the drives of course, but think how special you'll get to feel being the only person on the planet to own this particular photocopy of a non legally binding receipt of a photograph of something someone else continues to own!

I don't know if you follow Foamy the Squirrel and JMathers at IllWillPress, the guy is hysterical. Anyway his twitch channel Wednesday he went off about the same thing, how NFTs are just pictures of things but not the copyrighted or trademarked product and how some idiots out there may feel like they actually own the copyrighted product.

On a side note, it's sad to see Julian, who is a talented artist in his own right, have to stoop to such a low cash grab because Yoko refused to give Julian anything from his dad's estate.

I literally do not understand anything from this article. Yeah, NFT's are not for my brain.
Same. I still struggle to understand crypto, but this NFT thing is totally over me. Also, what the hell is a metaverse?

"Metaverse" is the latest dumb marketing phrase that means "We took the phrase that Neal Stephenson coined in his 1992 novel 'Snow Crash' to originally mean 'A meeting place using VR', and are now randomly trying to merge it with completely unrelated blockchain based technology for no logical reason whatsoever, and are throwing the label around like confetti in every article on crypto-currency based technology in order to appear hip & trendy 30 years later..."

You could do the same thing. Eg, if you started practising saying stupid sh*t like "I, Auswolf, hereby declare that Ultrawide monitors and Travellers Cheques should be merged and called OMNIVERSE! pls like me for my trendiness", you'll be a Tech Journalist (tm) in no time! ;)

So someone scammed people willing to invest 1M dollars in a minecraft NFT "game", and you are... surprised? Mad? Blaming the tech that I don't even see how it is linked to a "game?" This could've been anticipated by anyone with half a brain.

I'd say just don't invest in NFTs. But why on earth hate those using them in a normal context?

I wish you were wrong.

This makes me wanna...

I am in the process of replacing my B460 Phantom Gaming 4 at the moment. I will likely get an Asus Z490. I was going to wait to replace it to save some money, but no, I will not support a company that actively deals with NFTs, so I will order another Z490 from another brand, and sell this off as soon as possible. Tired of all the fucking bullshit crypto has caused.

for the same reason government has watchdogs in place to protect citizens from many various scams. unless you wish to do away with everything like a libertarian...

I mean, does the government do away with the dollar because the scams run on it? Because that's about how linked they are.

you are missing the major context here... there are loads of protections for tax payers against scammers in place, especially to do with older people and foreign scammers. same reason we banned cereal boxes in the 1980's from using marketing tactics that duped kids.

continue to be cynical though and take this entire comment out of context, as I expect you will. NFT's and crypto are both scams, with scam ads tricking people out of their money on a daily basis, but government works slow, so it will take awhile before they can add in protections, but they will eventually as they always do.

There AsRock, fixed it for ya.

No it has nothing to do with me, it's ASRock not AsRock hehe.

Hope this shit burns up fast, kinda sad to see ASRock doing this but i guess it's to be expected.

NFT's and crypto are both scams
Not inherently. And that's my only point. Scams are scams. Crypto and NFTs are only a medium. The dollar bill is popular for scams too.

Like being taught who not to give your hard cash too, a little crypto education would alleviate a lot of the publics woes. That being said, I acknowledge it's easier to just accuse the whole thing of being a scam, but that isn't really logically true.

I still don't get it, but at least I had a good laugh.

I wish somebody could exercise some political or financial power to bring these companies back to earth without being called communistic.

Ahem. Watchdogs?

Took their sweet time then.

And its no different in EU. Shit happens and gov will only step in if its too big to ignore - a completely abstract idea. Its too big if too many people make noise... specific people even. Those with finance and brain to even make a move.

This whole dynamic is older than crypto, its as old as trading land away from indians, and older, and unrelated to the means used to scam with.

The real question is are you informed and/or sane enough to avoid them.

I like it how people believe that somehow governments are there to make things better for them.

If anything, governments in their current form are the natural evolution of the distribution of power among people, and nothing else. They exist only to make the powerful even more powerful.

People should really understand that them alone are the only ones who can do something. Writing to your senators and reps? Haha, you only make them laugh.

Ok... this came across my reddit feed, and since I don't exactly love NFTs, I can admit it's pretty funny:

Power corrupts and requires checks and balances. Never ending story really

Of what i've read all this NTF's are all non intrusive, i mean you aren't forced into it in any way shape or form, you only enter into it if you want.
Unless i see some NTF that is forced onto someone, like you can only buy x if you also buy a NTF or in a game you can get an advantage if you buy in NTF's, i think this is just natural selection, it's all "hey idiot do you want to part with your money" kind of thing

PS: Unless they involve children into it, that's not ok. But consenting adults, who cares, free country, natural selection, you're an idiot, the other guy is smarted, if it wasn't NFT's some other natural selection event would part them from their money anyway, gullible idiots.

well good news for you, none of it matters anyway, Mother Earth is about to let us know what the **** is up real soon. :D she is kind of pissed off ;)

NFT emerged because of the blockchain technologies on which they 'live'.

Do you not understand the NFT in particular or the whole blockchain thing? Also, please don't confuse blockchain with DeFi, as the later is a concept that 'lives' on the blockchain too.

NFT's in particular, mostly what is supposed to be their point and why is that even a thing.

Well, it's simple. NFT should allow you to prove ownership of something, all this being backed up by the blockchain, i.e. anyone can see that you are the real owner. Especially useful in combination with smart contracts.

I'd gladly share some really neat uses but I have a few patents pending on them, so... stay tuned! :D
