ASUS looks set to release a second graphics card featuring a Noctua cooling solution nearly a year after the two companies announced the ASUS x Noctua GeForce RTX 3070. This new card features the GA102-based 10 GB version of the RTX 3080 instead of the newer 12 GB version launched in January. The quad-slot cooling solution present on the card is very similar to the existing configuration with dual 120 mm Noctua fans and a slightly modified backplate. The card features dual 8-pin power connectors in addition to non-standard display outputs with 3x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.1. The ASUS x Noctua GeForce RTX 3080 is expected to launch soon and retail for 1150 EUR which is 250 EUR more then the existing ASUS x Noctua GeForce RTX 3070.

My guess is they were in the works before 12GB?
Also Evga is selling FHR 80s again.
I doubt that they use a different PCB between 10GB and 12GB models, as 12GB models practically just has two memory chips more.

So it's just stupid to release a premium model like this when there's a better version of the "same" model.

Man that thing is ugly af. Its not even just the eternal poop colored fans. But that shroud, its like they took TUF and made it as bulky as they could. And that's nearly a 4 slot item right there... wtf.

This whole gen is really like we're taking strides back in time. Hot, hungry GPUs with little to show for it compared to dated technology. Better is signified by bigger, bulkier and grossly overpriced. I hope Nv is ready to bring Ada back on the path to normal, at least the better half of the stack. Ampere was, is, and continues to be a complete mess.

GPU sag is a thing, and 4 slot monstrosities do block other slots you can otherwise use; also note the fact it still hangs in there off two slots. It can already present issues in any mATX build. Its also a monstrous airflow blocker.

Ah, good point there. They should include a graphics card support there if not included.

Actually, hot and hungry is a perfectly natural evolution with technology, it's called the "Rebound Effect", and it's the phenomenon in which technological gains in efficiency are met with anincrease in power usage instead of a decrease, and it's been observed in every basic industry and in every application. A good way of demonstrating it is with work.... Technology and automation have made humans more productive than ever, but has this resulted in the need to perform less work? Or even a steady state in which the same amount of work is performed year over year? No, on average people are working more than ever despite being more productive than ever, and the same can be said for power and energy usage. In fact, the rebound effect is held up as one of the primary examples of why technological development will never solve our energy or environmental crisis.

We can argue about the original impetus behind this trend, but the result is that consumers and enthusiasts alike have been conditioned to expect ever increasing performance gains. Just like a logarithmic equation whose graph flattens out as it approaches zero, obtaining those gains has been increasingly difficult with node advancements and architectural improvements, so they're obviously leaning on increased power consumption as this problem intensifies. Just think of the culture of marketing and how it has not evolved to deal with a product that isn't any more powerful than the last generation, but uses 40% less power... They wouldn't know how to sell it, and consumers wouldn't buy it.... Just look at the survey this website did on power usage in PC components which I think it's still doing on the homepage, "environmental concern" is the least chosen answer. This is the inherent nature and problem of consumerism.

Isn't it literally a 4-slot card? I have a hard time believing that even the NR200 can fit the Noctua 3070/3080 (it might barely have enough space but not sure how you'd get it inside past the case frame, without bending the x16 slot/fingers). NCASE has like maybe 3.5 slots of space, if that. NR200 MAX fits it though, vertically.

Well there is the FE variant, but then you have to live with 100C on memory under full load (at stock).

Never liked Noctua fan colors, it clash with basic black theme, unless a theme was intentionally designed around those colors, i.e., paint and trim lighting.

You do know the entire shroud and backplate has a brown tint to it?

It won't fit with any build unless you already browned out with fans.

And noisy af fans, cuz that's the entire point of this Noctua edition, quiet and cool.

And noisy af fans, cuz that's the entire point of this Noctua edition, quiet and cool.
At high enough load they're all noisy AF:
3070 FE - 30 dB (AiB's within 23-35 dB range)
3080 FE - 36 dB (AiB's within 31-36 dB range)
3080 Ti FE - 39 dB (AiB's within 33-43 dB range)

So apart from the higher memory temps FE doesn't really stand out the from AiB offerings (apart from Noctua which comes with noctua tax that could cover the cost of waterblock on an FE unit and then you have 1 slot card).

Noctua 3070 is 23/26 dB, depending on the VBIOS used. We have to wait and see how it handles 3080 and its GDDR6X memory.

Spot on, and we're seeing the result of that inherent nature of consumerism: it runs into boundaries of common sense, aesthetics, and just general comfort of life. And cost, too, I mean if you're still pushing 20-30% power usage increases every gen in this day and age, obviously someone didn't get the memo somewhere. A large number of countries exist now where people see their energy bill triple year over year, and it could get worse.

Its essentially not natural evolution of technology, its the evolution of boundless commerce and capitalism. A system that served us well but needs more checks and balances right now, yesterday, even. Or we don't and those checks and balances will come to us in the shape of draught, flooding, poverty, misery, disease, conflict. We've had a sample with the last pandemic and the current war in Ukraine is yet another. Shortages on various goods are ramping up, energy becomes a highly priced commodity, and it echoes in everything.

This ASUS-Noctua card looks much better than terrible looking Gigabyte/MSI/INNO3D/Zotac cards (Man those things just look like vomit).. also premium materials and performance is what's important, everything else is just secondary.
