Over the past three fiscal quarters, Novell Linux increased its market share by 243%, and wants to thank Microsoft for this success. Linux and Microsoft fanboys everywhere, this is not what you think it is. Ever since Microsoft and Novell signed a collaborative deal in November, both companies have seen nothing but benefit from this relationship. Novell made over $100 million USD in revenue, and Microsoft has the support of Linux users seeking interoperability, the driving force behind such explosive growth.

the last part really killed me lol. i thought novell was thanking ms for killing themselves with vista and having users use linux instead of vista lol.

Now if Linux and Windows could be blended to create a streamlined, stable, performance based OS, leave the fancy GUI for the end-user that doesn't need the most performance extracted out of their systems, we'd be really living it up! Someday....maybe...

We already have that, it's called Linux with WINE installed. :toast:

But is WINE really that good? I started looking into it, but got side tracked this summer. I was going to start messing with linux and see what WINE was capable of.

But I want all my games, my video performance, benches (not as important), software and such to work. I don't want to have to go out and get Linux versions, or ports. Which is my problem I know...

wine implements the windows api so that the windows files can execute natively on the linux os with no performance hits. the only thing linux is missing atm is dx9.

Well then there goes that idea, if I can't enjoy my DX9 games, which is a primary part of my PC, I would have a serious problem! :D

I'm sure they'll implement that and DX10 in the future, but I see no benefit for me until that is done, then maybe it'll be worth the jump. And, AMD did finally release drivers to support the HD2XXX series in linux right? Cause, I'm finding a way to get a 2900pro soon!

linux has opengl though, so if we get some opengl games...

linux will soon have dx or something similair and then we witness the fall of microsoft.

doesnt cedega give linux the ability to run pc games?

Cedega is a Windows Emulator, but you have to pay for it.

Cedega will play any windows game straight out of the box, great software for running games. Gonna get Ubuntu with Beryl up and running soon! looks cool, check out the videos on youtube

Ah, Microsoft, you old jokester: Embrace, extend and extinguish

Novell will get what's coming to them eventually. It may take years, but they'll get it eventually.

Its just amazing what the side effect of Vista and MS ways have produced. Im amazed and at the same time, proud to see Dell and others offering open source OS' to customers.
