According to news out of South Korea, LG Display is readying a 20-inch OLED display which should become available to its partners by the end of the year. It's intended for "personal devices" but seems to be too big for a tablet or a laptop display. Admittedly the Elec who broke the story, didn't mention which aspect ratio the panel would have, but even at 16:9 or 16:10, this seems like something intended for desktop applications or a luggable gaming notebooks.

However, LG is apparently working on a range of new OLED display panels, of which some will be bendable so the user can choose to have a flat or a curved monitor. LG has already seen a decent update of its OLED products when it comes to gaming displays, although presumably most of these are TVs. According to the Elec, LG said that most consumers prefer a curvature of between 800 to 1000R when gaming, although no source for this information was provided. According to LG, only its single glass substrate white OLED panels could be used for bendable LED monitors, as Samsung's QD OLED panels use two glass substrates, which apparently makes them impossible to bend/flex to this degree.

Would be interesting if they start making more of those true RGB OLEDs.

If this is an adaptive-curvature 1080p 240 Hz monitor then I am shocked at an actually enticing monitor being teased.

LCD trash is so tiring!

Why are they so tone deaf?

When can we expect 27 Inch 1440p 16:9 QD-OLED monitors?

I'm so done with ALL these dated OLEDs BS marketing tech bump upgrades speech and our three AW3821DW curves are the last panels that we're purchasing until these clowns finally bring micro-OLEDS to the market.

Damn the puke coating QD-OLED mess!

I'd really like to know where did they get that stupid idea that people want more 1000R panels. No one wants that, seriously, not even on ultrawides is 1000R prefered, that's just too much, and on regular 16:9 no one is asking for curved panels at all. God damn, how can they be this dumb and out of touch with the market. Next thing they'll try to re-introduce the failed curved tv experiment from half a decade ago.

That's Samsung tech, this is an article about LG. ~30'' QD-OLED monitors were supposed to start to appear later this year.

Oh my a flexible monitor, kinda like the Iphone that curves...

TBH, I would like to see a roll up monitor like the rollup keyboards. Just one of those neat tech ideas.

This is how I feel as well.

The sweet spot is 100% 27" 1440p high refresh. We just need it in OLED.

What? QD-OLED can be curved to the same 1000R curvature. Their 34" panel is curved.
Curve, yes, but not bend/flex back and forth.
Keep in mind that the article talks about flexible displays that can be flat and curved.

lmao hell naw to that curve
introducing distortion by default and requireing the user to sit 100% still for the entire duration is not good, theres also a reason why TV's arent curved, this is purely marketing at work :\

Oh yeah, I can't wait to go back down to 20" after almost 20 years! My eyesight is getting better and better after all! (if it is indeed meant as a desktop monitor, as suggested)

My sentiments exactly, if it is indeed meant for desktop (it might be for an ultra size gaming laptop).

I took it as being 20'' class (as in 23'', 25'' and 27''), no point for desktop or laptop otherwise (too small for one, too big for the other)

That's very possible, but that's not how the Elec wrote it. 20-inch class makes a lot more sense.

a PR with sense? Whats this world coming to?:roll:

Do you think this is a beta test to see if there is a market for such a feature?

Come to think of it, I wonder if this would be popular as Laptop screens, shrunk of course.

The Elec has good coverage of Samsung and LG in particular, and they're sometimes the first to break stories from them (though this story comes from a korean industry event). Their English site can sometimes have wonky translations, though. Here's the excerpt from the Korean version of the article:

Using google translate, we get:
Director Kang said, "At the end of the year, we will also unveil 20-inch OLEDs." Although it is a portable device, the specific characteristics of the product were not introduced. He emphasized, "Digitalization has accelerated as the new normal spreads after Corona 19, and as external activities enter the interior, the demand for individual displays is growing." He continued, "Displays are developing into a form suitable for interiors by increasing space efficiency and aesthetics," he predicted.
It does not sound like "20-class display." It sounds like they're making a 20-inch display intended for portable devices of some variety. Possibly portable monitors, but this is phrased quite strangely, so it's hard to say what else it would be used for. Either way, they obviously don't expect people to put this on their desk as a computer monitor lol

A 27″ 1440p 240Hz W-OLED panel with HDR400 True Black certification appeared on some roadmaps, but no other information is available.

27″ – 32″ 4K High Refresh Rate OLED Displays

LG mentioned that high refresh rate OLED monitors are on the horizon, but there’s no word on anything specific, including release date or pricing.

I hope they sell these for around $500. Talk to me LG.
