Rockstar Games responded to the recent leaks of its next "Grand Theft Auto" game in development, which was splattered all over YouTube over the weekend. The studio sent takedown-notices to several popular news sites re-posting the found-footage, and YouTube dutifully took videos from the major channels down, but the Internet never forgets. The footage has been re-posted by thousands of smaller, non-commercial users on YouTube and other social media. The game itself doesn't "look" too next-gen, because Rockstar is still designing its mechanics, and will probably work on the eye-candy much later. In its statement, Rockstar said that a network intrusion caused the footage to leak to the web, but assured gamers that the leak won't affect Rockstar's online services, and have no impact in the medium-long term on games that are in development.

Strange they acknowledged it, lending credence to the leak.

They deserve it for their milking of GTA V, the PS2 era had 3 GTAs, the 360 2, the PS4 none. Only remakes and useless online of GTA V.

Seems like they have been taken down due to copyright. I found some but I expected more... I know it's early and it should be mind blowing but until then I'm ready for San Andreas GTA VR.

Why ignore it? Now you get another wave of press. It seems "leaks" are becoming a popular way to market your product.

You're suggesting they let their network get hacked for promotional reasons? Or are you presenting a fresh conspiracy that "They" fabricated this whole thing so they could advertise their unfinished game using video of incomplete assets, gameplay, and missing textures?

Not in this particular case maybe. But the second wave of press is definitely going to happen after the confirmation.

Yeah, I had way more fun in their old games than I did in GTA V or RDRII, even though these were great games. But I only completed either of them once.

This is a completely different Rockstar than in the 2000s. They are trying to top their last game by focusing on scale and attention to detail, when it is not necessary.

The change from San Adreas to IV was so interesting. It had a completely different feeling, but it worked. And it did not take a decade to make.

Once something hits the internet it never really goes away. You can't put the cat back in the bag.

Indeed.

I'd say they have the right to milk GTA V as much as they want. It is the best game in it's class, or rather it's in a class of its own. Would I like the next GTA release to had happen sooner? Yes, of course. But IMHO it's unfair to criticize them when the competition doesn't come even close. Same thing with FIFA and NBA 2K. People like to bash them for copy pasting games year after year, yet there is no replacement for them coming from any other game studio.

Dont trust the footage, if it even is actual footage and not from some disgruntled game designer. This early in the game development means its not even in pre-alpha state. Anyone buying into this hype needs to examine their intelligence. :D

Well, if rumors are true & the hacker stole the source codes for GTA5 and/or GTA6 it will have "no (HUGE!) impact in the medium-long term on games".
Unstoppable hacks will basically kill GTA5/6 online modes & put gamers PC's at risk. :wtf:

This. As always, the reddit detectives doing a way better job as every gaming news outlet.
r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/ We might have our first legitimate screenshots from GTA 6

I've watched the "Edit 9: gameplay at the club as seen in the first screenshot at the club" from the reddit post and have to say it looks pretty impressive.
The lighting effects are much better, textures too, and there is way more little details. And it's just from a years old alpha build, not even close to the real finished thing.

GTA 4 was badly optimized game, even prior games for PC were usually after thoughts/bad ports but GTA 4 was literal crap. With GTA 5 things changed massively for better.

That may be true, but what does it have to do with anything?

Consoles are the primary platforms for their games and their games were always polished. With San Andreas they achieved the impossible on PS2. With GTA IV they had a brand new engine, so the scale was smaller, but the tech was incredible (animations, physics).

Once GTA VI comes out (consoles only at first), it will be amazing, no doubt about that. But personally I would prefer a new installment every 5 years. It would still be higher quality than any other open world game.

I also fear we will never get another new IP from Rockstar. Agent was cancelled, even Bully 2 was either canned or put on hold, and I think we already know RDR is supposed to be a trilogy, so that will probably come out around 2030. ;)

Leaks doesn't look great...

I gave up fighting the constant engine quirks Rockstar always has... last Red Dead put the last nail in the coffin. I wouldn't bother if the game would cost like 10-20€, but again as recently it has become a normal thing you pay 60-80€ to become an alpha tester. F* that.

Man, I really dislike R* and they deserve even worse misfortunes and ill tactics against them. I dislike R* so much that I have all their PC titles in my library. Damn R*, I tell ya! Damn'em!

Just type in gta leak on yt and there's a 53min video that compiled them all. Won't give the link for obv reasons.

Doesn't look that much different from V imo just a slight evolution in lighting and model complexity from what I looked at.

At this point, I'm more interested in an RDR3 that expands on Arthur and the gang's younger years, a prequel.

Seems like free advertisement to me, I wasn't aware until the leak. I didn't watch anything in case I want to play. There will be reviews later. *Shrug*

Find it very funny that a bunch of (highly skilled) kids can bring so much pain to a multi billion company.
Seems also very profitable from a risk/reward standpoint. But sitting on $14m as a 16 year old, it just can go wrong.

GTA V is on a completely different level in every way, the profit the game generated is a better evaluation metric than individual opinions

The leaked footage appears to have been obtained by stealthily remoting into developers' and testers' work PCs and recording their screens as they worked. It's kinda creepy to watch in that respect, actually.

And with that said, all the kids on twitter complaining about the graphics are extra funny. No crap it doesn't look like a new game--it's a pre-alpha and all of the footage is of the devs testing various animations and gameplay mechanics. You think they're gonna turn on ray tracing to test a walking animation?

Given the severe lack of polish (as normal as it is for early-ish development) I doubt it's the case, they even show tools and some network info, not something they'd want out there

that's not it
