After all the rumors ciculating around the web for weeks, Bungie and Microsoft Corp. have finally announced a plan for Bungie Studios, the developers of Microsoft's "Halo" franchise, to become a privately held independent company, Bungie, LLC, in which Microsoft will hold a minority equity interest. As part of this transaction, Bungie and Microsoft have forged a deep and long-term development and publishing relationship focused on the continued success of the "Halo" franchise. It is also the intent of both parties to expand their partnership to include new IP created and owned by Bungie.

Bungie's critically acclaimed Xbox 360 exclusive "Halo 3" achieved $300 million in global sales in its first week. Released on Tuesday, Sept. 25, "Halo 3" is the fastest-selling video game ever and already one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.

"This exciting evolution of our relationship with Microsoft will enable us to expand both creatively and organizationally in our mission to create world-class games," said Harold Ryan, studio head for Bungie. "We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft's platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through 'Halo' and beyond."

"Working with Microsoft was great for us, it allowed us to grow as a team and make the ambitious, blockbuster games we all wanted to work on. And they will continue to be a great partner. But Bungie is like a shark. We have to keep moving to survive. We have to continually test ourselves, or we might as well be dolphins. Or manatees," said Jason Jones, Bungie founder and partner.

Bungie's management retained the services of Don Leeds, senior managing director of B-Hive Global, LLC, to assist in the structuring of the deal and negotiating on their behalf. Bungie will remain in Kirkland, Washington, and is always looking to hire excellent talent.

Interesting

At least they are not leaving Microsoft totally:rockout::rockout::rockout:

Yup, all makes sense.

Bungie will leave Microsoft but still work on Halo, and make a new title for the Xbox 360.

I'm glad us PC Enthusiests are going to be able to enjoy Halo 4.. even if it will only be in 2013.

no doubt Bungie will concentrate on Pc game development also now they have split after all Halo was mean for pc originally.

This makes me happy, because honestly, Halo is lousy quality. All 3 Halo games are stale. If MS got a quality developer like id, valve, epic, cryTek, etc... the game could be a whole hell of a lot better! I'm confident that Halo Wars will be an awesome competition for Starcraft2 because it's being developed by Ensemble Studios - the makers of Age of Empires series.

Funny thing i learned today is that Halo was initially was for the Macs...

Funny thing i learned today is that Halo was initially was for the Macs...

Bungie started as a mac only company, they then got into some cross platform development, and literally within a year of Halo's released (rumors were already circulating in the mac community) microsoft bought them, delayed the game a couple months, and launched it for xbox only.

That's most of the reason Halo came out for Mac and PC and not just PC when it was finally allowed off the xbox.

Actually...halo was meant for Mac and it was at an Apple conference that Microsoft first approached Bungie to purchase rights to the game and make it for xbox. The controls were ported from keyboard to xbox controller.

Hopefully this means that if/when Halo 3 comes to pc, we won't have to upgrade to a new Microsoft OS to legally play it...

There won't be a new OS 2 years from now dummy:slap:

It will be 2010 at the earliest before we see a new OS at the earliest

Of course there will, Windows Vienna (2009). ;)

Windows Vienna is meant to phase out XP.

Hmmm I know it is called VIenna of course but I heard it wasnt coming out till 2010

Less than 3 years doesnt seem like enough time for an OS to me anyways.

Plus in PC world Magazine they put the timeline for Vienna as 2010 OR LATER

They've been working on Vienna since before Vista came out. Most any website I've seen says 2009.

Oh I knew they had been working on it since before vista heck they probably already have a small team working on the next OS after that.

My point is is that its highly unlikely imo that Halo 3 will be released to PC after Windows Vienna shows up to the door again that just my opinion

I bet Vienna will be even more worse than Vista is. :/

Vista works just fine dumbass.

Also dont just say stuff you know absolutely nothing about.

They havent even said hardly anything yet about Windows Vienna (of course scant details here and there but nothing major to show off yet)

Why resort to name calling? :shadedshu

Vista, for now, is a horrible OS. Once SP1 rolls around for it you can count on it being better, but for now it's just plain horrid.

Also, I agree Halo 3 won't be coming to PC anytime soon. They haven't wrote one line of code for it yet.

f*ck you

I know a lot about vista, as I've used it in the past before, and it totally sucked.

I have had no problems with using it on my laptop with only 1 GB of memory in it. It runs just fine for me.

Its when people try to mess with the OS that problems start to occur and imo thats their fault not Microsofts

Im using it as I type this message

So Suck this:

kind of an ironic 180 really.

well I've had problems with the system I've used it on, and it had 2GB of RAM (DDR2).

I've never messed with anything (other than changing the wallpaper, oh wait, that will really mess stuff up )

Also, do you really think I care, that you are using Vista as you type this message? LOL I'm using windows 98 as I type this message.

Lol...Do you follow any problems that are arising with Vista...?

Also, I'm glad you rank your OS's quality on how well it can do word processing on a forum.

:wtf:
