X800xl

First of all, the card is referred to as an x800gto in direct x. Second, the card came with a core clock of 390 and a memory clock of 350.

Using ATI Tool, I got the core to 415 and the memory to 430. The card seems to have rampant heating issues, and will soar to 60+ degrees C when I run a Scan for Artifacts test, even on the stock clock rate.


What tips do you have? Does this factory seem a bit low?

1st of all a x800gto runs at 400MHz core and 980MHz\490 memory well when you go on ati it did the same to my x800xtpe but click the default and it should put it back up to these speeds and nothing wrong with 60c its only if it get 100c plus when you want to start worring and what make is your x800gto

It came stock with the wrong bios. I think the card was refurbished, it was an ebay purchase. It came with a modified x800 pro bios (From what I can tell) that detected as an x800gto. I reflashed it to a x800xl bios and got my pipes and clockrate back.

Its an msi x800xl.

you cant flash it to x800xl because they are different cores the x800pro is a r420 where the xl is a r430 :/

Someone was an idiot and bought an msi x800xl, flashed the bios to a wierd x800pro/gto bios. Then they RMA'd it. MSI sold it to the guy who sold it to me on ebay (thats my guess).

yes your factory clock seems low to me (check the gpu database)
I have a sapphire x800xl agp and it´s clocked 400-490 the temperatures didn´t go over 55 c for me with stock cooling ( water now )
350 - 390 seems very low to me

could be a duff 1 and just put a different bois because it cant support what it should and just a dodgey card so they clocked the card down on purpose

I fixed it. It runs like a stock x800xl and I got a respectable 5384 3dmark. I need to OC my venice a bit now, its only at 1.8ghz

Hey zurb, How much more speed do you get out of your x800xl with water cooling?

Mine seems to be running great with the stock heatsink/fan, with a max temp of 62c overclocked to the speed in my sig.

Oh, btw vario, if you've got a decent motherboard, check out the bios for the 'peg' settings, my c3d x800xl benefited by having a few of the PCIe settings tweaked! There's a thread on it somewhere, i'll edit this when i find the link.

How much did you pay for the card btw? If you got it cheap, and managed to fix it, that's cool!

Infrared:
Stock cooling: 430 - 530 ( don´t really remember ) didn´t go over 55 C core. idle 40 C
Water cooling: 440 - 540 something about 40 - 45 C depends on cpu load. idle about 25 C
Memory can be clocked at ~550 , but i don´t want to push the last out of it.
Same thing with core. ~445 can be squeezed out
Conclusion: Water cooling was really don´t worth the prize. If you think at speed, but it became silent

Have you voltmodded your card? Good clocks by the way
I want to voltmodd my card but I´m a little frightend

Same here, i'm very nevous about volt-modding my card, since i don't have the money to replace it if i screw up! Maybe one day tho

Hmm... Silent! I'd love to have a quiet system... I'm looking for a good fan control panel. I've got a clear acrylic case with 5 big fans and it's pretty loud at the best of times! I'm thinking of making a small panel with a variable resistor and perhaps a simple voltmeter built in (the 5 fans run streight of 12v rail without a tacheometer so i can't measure their rpm)

I tried the softmod drivers but i didn't find they worked at all It just refused to recognise my card. But the official ATI drivers seem great so no complaints there!

I paid $200 for my card a month ago off ebay. I was $5 away from buying a x800xt PE for $205, I bid $199.74. I was unhappy about that.

Peg mod is just an increase in the bus of the pcie? Ill have to take a look if I have that feature.

If it gives you the option to choose the mhz manually, steer clear! I crashed mine a few times while playing with that one!

The main settings you want to look for are 'peg link mode' and 'peg buffer length'

on stock cooling for arctic silver 5 paste on it after cleaned it i got it to 469/553 with slight voltage mod using mobo bios prob can go higher but to lazy
