Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that it would give each household up to four Wii remote jackets, free of charge, and would start including said jackets with future Wii consoles. However, this program isn't going to be free of charge for Nintendo. With 10 million consoles already sold, Nintendo will have to make 40 million sleeves, to live up to their promise, which will cost a grand total of no less than $17.2 million USD.

I dont see why they didnt just put them on the shelfs for dirt cheap... like say retail price of $5 and package them in new consoles.

would make em look bad. shipping bad products and then having 10 million customers spend money so that they can fix the problem.

i think it is because they realise a design flaw with regards to a smooth controller surface and a sweaty palm, rather than end up being dragged into court. For the sake of $1 each max Nintendo look great for taking this pre-emptive measure and leaving the customer pretty much no room for complaint.
 
True True ^^, tis a good idea, just I didnt think the sleeve was really necessary. I dont know much about wii's, though alot of companies cut corners and would make the customer pay while they release a new design lol.
 
it will only cost them that much if every Wii owner claims theirs - you can bet the pick up is less than 50%

I like that it shows them giving of themselves. Sure, it could be a design flaw like what was mentioned, but I dont see any other gaming companies (consoles) giving out such freebies.

its because Nintendo has a family friendly image and with this gesture are striving to keep it that way.
